Back Pain

Congrats to all mothers to be!! This is my first pregnancy and I am scared to death of everything! Especially medication! I have had some terrible sciatic nerve issues the last two weeks. Today, I can't walk without falling. My midwife prescribed Flexaril, but I haven't taken it because I don't know how it will affect my baby. I'm only 10 weeks, and start physical therapy on Monday. What are some other things I can try? Thanks in advance!

Re: Back Pain

  • Welcome! I'm 12 weeks and have always had sciatic pain but it's gotten worse since becoming pregnant. Baths, heating pad on low to medium heat for 20 minute intervals and using a foam roller to stretch have been wonderful I also use accetomenaphine for when the pain is bad. Mainly though daily especially nightly stretching is a must it will hurt but it does help!

Here is also a link to some stretches that help

  • It's a category B... Meaning there's no known risk to baby... You're fine to take it--- I doubt your midwife would have recommended it she didn't feel that it was okay. I understand that you're nervous about taking it but it seems that if you can't walk with out falling that this far exceeds any risks (which again, it being a category B, means there's been no evidence to show it causes harm)

  • If your doctor prescribed it then it is safe. I don't understand why people question something when their doctor said it was ok.
  • That just started for me when I got pregnant, too. It actually has gotten better on its own. Not as bad as yours OP, I'm sorry!! I do think that if your doc prescribed it that you'll be okay. But yeah as @PinkLady2015 said .. It's category B. You can google it to see what category different medicines are in. I hope you feel better!
