Any success with ICSI?

edited December 2015 in Infertility
My DH and I have been TTC on our own for 14 months.  We have started looking into our options and it looks like ICSI is going to be our best option. He has Cystic Fibrosis which caused his vas deferens to never develop.  Has anyone done ICSI and did you have success?

Re: Any success with ICSI?

  • I would like to know about this too. We will be moving on to IVF this winter/spring and due to our spermies not all having acrsomal caps our RE stated that we will be doing ICSI. Thanks for asking this Q, and good luck to you!

  • I got pregnant on the first cycle and we used ICSI. We used a frozen sample so we had to but my RE only does fertilization that way. They dont let them self fertilize. It works!
  • Yes! My husband also has cystic fibrosis and had to have sperm surgically removed via the MESA procedure. Out of 8 eggs, 7 fertilized with ICSI. Currently 12 weeks pregnant :) Have you seen a urologist yet and know what kind of procedure he will have done? Feel free to personally message me if you have any questions.

    Dx:  obstructive azoospermia
    IVF#1:  October 2015
    10/7/2015:  ER  11 retrieved, 8 mature, 7 fertilized w/ ICSI
    10/12/2015:  Transferred 5AA and 4AA blasts, froze one 4AA and 4BB
    Beta #1 9dp5dt:  122!!! BFP!
    Singleton, due June 2016

  • We did IVF with ICSI as well, with a frozen supply. We had 8 eggs retrieved and 2 fertilized. Still don't know why our fertilization was so low, ICSI is supposed to have a high fertilization rate in general, so I'm sure you would do well! :)
  • We just did IVF with ICSI and had a positive beta.  My first ultrasound showed one (possibly 2) sacs!  Good luck!

We did one round of IVF with ICSI due to DH (2%morph). 25 eggs retrieved, 25 mature, 21 fertilized with ICSI, 17 made it to day 5, 10 made it to freeze and 1 fresh ET made a BFP. Currently 14 weeks pregnant with 1 healthy little boy. :)

ICSI has great fertilization rates. GL!!
  • My RE said that recent research is showing that IVF with ICSI is producing better results than IVF alone.  He is considering switching his practice to having all IVFs use ICSI.  My husband does not have fertility issues but we still did ICSI and had a high rate of fertilization. It was a bit more money, but what a couple thousand more when paying for everything (I say that with a hint of sarcasm.  Everything feels like an additional charge.)
  • Also regarding your husband's CF, have you been checked to see if you're a carrier? If not, I recommend using Ambry genetics to test. From what I've read, its far more comprehensive than some of the other tests. If you are a carrier, you can have your embryos tested to see if they will have CF or not. We were very fortunate and luckily I was not a carrier.

Bfp mentioned**. We conceived through IVF with ICSI- it was the best decision I ever made. ETA- my doctor only does ICSI when doing IVF
  • Thank you everyone for your replies, they are very encouraging and give us a lot of hope. Going to have our first appointment  in January with my DH urologist.
  • Good luck! Me and my husband have been saving for IVF. Here's hoping if it comes to that, it works!
