Re: Official Labor Watch Thread (L&D questions, concerns, and announcements)

  • I am 38 weeks 3 days at my appt on Friday was told i am 2 centimeter dialated and baby is measuring 3 weeks behind i should be seei g the specialist on Thursday (if i make it). Yesterday i had a lot of mucus come out im assuming my mucus plug again. All last night and today i feel as if my back is going to give out i have strong stabbing pains and light cramps. Could this mean labor has started?

  • 39 weeks today. My first baby was born at 37±1 with no signs until water broke and active labor started. I'm feeling overdue and jumjy at every tiny thing. Ugh. BUT last night was the first time I had any pain with contractions. I thought for sure baby was coming. Kept waiting to wake up DH and then finally gave up when they never got close than 20 minutes. This morning, lots of mucus with some blood (had this last week too though). I was getting so discouraged because DS was early that these little signs finally happening are exciting.

Also my midwife was gone for the weekend and is back this afternoon. So I'm hoping baby was just waiting for her to return. Okay, little one.... ANY time now is good.
  • 39 +5 today. Got a 3rd membrane sweep and 3rd acupuncture appointment. I was at 2 cm and still 50% efaced. We put the induction on hold until Thursday at 40 +1 so there's still hope for her to come naturally. Fingers crossed!
  • @EC2016 You've had all of that and you aren't even overdue?

Yeah. I have gd so they keep trying to get her to come naturally because they don't want me to go over. I'll be induced right at 40 +1 because of it too. I'd honestly prefer to go over than be induced but I understand the reasoning.
  • Been at the hospital since 8 AM. Cytotec at 10:20 which pushed me into labor without needing the pitocin. Started having extremely bad back labor, then got epidural (amazing). They just broke my water and now we are waiting on our little guys arrival! Not what I planned, but I am 40 weeks today and they will not let me go past that since our guy has a congenital heart disease.
  • @ah1013 good luck! You will have a beautiful baby soon!
  • @lizzsilva2010 It could be, or you could have that for days/weeks before active labor starts. Sucks not knowing... I've been having the same since Friday...no active labor yet. Hang in there mama.

  • @EC2016 ooooh! That makes a whole lot more sense! Best of luck to you! Hope little one cooperates. I know I'm wanting mine to come on her own. Only one week til induction...
  • 39+2 today. I thought I might be in latent labour stage yesterday, but no such luck.

  • 39+2 and I'm 100% sure I lost my mucus plug this morning. I'm so excited I just had to share with somebody. My body hasn't done a thing all pregnancy and at my appointment yesterday my midwife dos the membrane sweep and said it may or may not help. And she told us to go do to the do so we did. Not sure which one it was if either but something has got things moving in the right direction!
  • And here's 40. Babe still seems to be happy as a pig in sh*t in there so we'll see if yesterdays membrane sweep does anything. I'm holding off on induction unless medically necessary so it's all a waiting game. Eviction notice little one you're time is up if you aren't out in less than two weeks action will be taken against you. So let's be civil and you leave on your own terms... preferably soon

My mucus has had some blood in it today. Not sure if it's residual blood from the sweep yesterday or if it's my bloody show.

My mucus plug was tinged with blood, but the actual bloody show is a lot of blood and a lot closer to the pushing stage of labor for most people. My bloody show came at 8 cm dilated right before they broke my water.

  • 40+2. Had an appointment today and I'm still not dilated, but my cervix has thinned out. Scheduled to be induced this Saturday at 7 am, so hopefully he decides to come before then!!
  • 40+4 today, had a membrane sweep at my apt and almost immediately started feeling cramping, went home and have been having lots of mucus and pink tinge when wiping! I'm hoping this is the start of something bc my body has had no real signs of labor until now! Come on baby girl! We are waiting!

It's normal to have bleeding and cramping after a sweep. I've had 3 and I've bled and had cramps for a day after all of them. I bled the most after the second one for some reason. Good luck! Hope it works for you!

I know I'm not getting my hopes up too much just yet, but I think just some small progress even if it does fizzle out will get me thru these last few days of impatiently waiting.
  • Woke up at 145am with intense cramping/contractions. They were 7 to 10 minutes apart. At 3am they started to get so intense I thought I might need to call my midwife. Got out of bed to refill my water and pee. Contractions spaced out while walking around and I ended up falling asleep on the couch until 7am. Another contraction woke me up. It was also quite painful and lasted over a minute. Went to pee and saw lots more bloody mucus (have "lost my mucus plug" already). I'm 39+2 with baby #2. About to go for a walk hopefully kick things back into gear. I think I might even see if I can find a play date for DS to get him out from underfoot for a few hours.
  • I also had contractions about 11 minutes apart last night and went back to sleep. Woke up around 2:30 and they were closer to 9 minutes and were around 7 minutes around 5am. I got up and ate breakfast and they started to space out. Took a long walk and bounced around on my ball and they got between 5-6 minutes but then spaced out again while in the shower. Back to around 6 minutes. I'm hoping something progresses and I can have a baby at the end of the day.
  • 39+3 and no sign of anything! I had more Braxton Hicks at the beginning of the month than I do now. At least that would be feeling something at this point! OB hasn't done any sweeps or checked for dilation at my appts. I would like things to start naturally, but I'm getting impatient here! Ready to get this over with and meet baby but I wouldn't want to think about inducing until after 41 weeks.
  • Had a weekly check up yesterday, I'm 40+ at this point. Midwife sent me to labor and delivery because my head aches and vision problems haven't cleared up and it felt like baby has been slowing down. I've been thinking I have had no signs of labor but the nurse informed me I'm having impressive contractions 4-5 minutes apart. I couldn't feel any of them. Also learned I'm 100% effaced but not dilated. Baby looked just fine on the monitor too. I was hoping to keep working until delivery but I'm now on bed rest. Hopefully this little baby gets a move on it soon!
  • Hi ladies. So before I had my baby I was not dialed and never lost my mucus plug or bloody show. 38+3 and had really no progress. That night I had sex with DH and I believe that's what broke my water! My husband (along with my mom and my aunt who were staying with us...odd I know) kept telling me sex will help. That same morning at 1:30 broke it. No contractions though. Hope this helps somebody.
  • @Malic Exact same thing is going on with me! Good luck!
    I'm 40+3
  • @jrouge12 I'm just wondering if your headaches were sudden and strong? I've been having headache issues while sleeping and my eyes don't seem to want to work properly until I've been up for an hour to two hours. I've been chalking it up to lack of continuous sleep (total I get 8 hours but I've been up a stupid number of times). It's only been the last two days that have had any issue though. Good luck and I hope little gets going for you

  • @sarahbeara25 No. The headaches started about 2 weeks ago. I would call your doctor and ask about the headaches. Even though they sent me home on bed rest (my blood pressure had gone back down) they said several times that problems from pre-e can manifest very quickly and I need to call them if I'm worried about anything. They have me going in tomorrow just for a bp/urine check even though everything was ok yesterday. Even if your doctor has you come in and it turns out to be nothing, it's better than risking the complications.
  • 39w tomorrow, started losing my mucus plug today. Walking uncomfortable laps around the house now in hopes of getting things started, since it would be much preferable to go into labor today/tomorrow, instead of during the anticipated snow. Alas, no contractions yet, not even mild ones. Hoping everything decides to spontaneously start later today, I know I'm only 39w but I'm on leave and bored and ready to hold her!

  • I guess I had my first experience with prodromal labor last night?  I'm 38 weeks 4 days and last night I woke up at 4:30 with a sharp pain in my lower abdomen than then turned crampy.  It continued on like that, either sharp pain or crampy feeling for about 4 hours.  But it felt continuous, rather than having breaks in between (though maybe the crampy feeling was the break?) so it was hard to time.

I'm hoping when it's a "real" contraction it'll be easier to time and figure out?  I thought I'd know what one felt like but it just seemed like pain and then crampiness, not the tight feeling I was expecting with rest in between.  Oh well!  I'm sure I'll feel plenty more at some point!  *insert shrug emoji*  It just worried me because I thought it was supposed to feel different and I wanted to make sure it wasn't something going wrong, but baby was moving fine all throughout and this morning it's all gone and baby is still moving around, so it seems like it *was* prodromal labor?  No idea.

Anyway, I'm excited because I feel like this at least means things are happening.  My cervical exams have been disappointing (completely closed, no progress) but last night I had the first couple of experiences of lightning crotch, so I'm hoping that means baby is moving into position and the prodromal labor is my body getting ready.

Any progress for you?! Mine slowed down big time during the day. Picking back up now, but I feel so silly. I think baby is tricking me. Haha It's so frustrating! I feel like I keep taking one step forward, two steps back.

I was just wondering about you. :) It slowed down and I've been feeling silly & frustrated as well, then they picked back up again. My cramps/contractions have been pretty consistent ~8-10 minutes apart the past few hours, and I just had my bloody show, so I'm hoping things will pick up! It's definitely getting more painful.
  • @fishee333 Hope things keep progressing for you! I'm at a total standstill. I even went to work today because nothing was happening. :-( wahhhhhh!
  • So I haven't been feeling much in the way of labor or contractions that I can tell and I'm 39+5. But I have been getting this super uncomfortable tightening of my stomach that lasts for a couple of hours. Is that anything to be concerned with? Could it be Braxton Hicks possibly?
  • @Knottie84607381 happens to me too, pretty sure it's just BH, either way it's nothing to worry about, ive had that happen for months now

  • Braxton Hicks might last for hours, but only in waves. It shouldn't be tight the whole time. Doesn't sound like contractions either, so I might call the doctor just to check in? @Knottie84607381

  • I had my baby at 38+4 and I just want to say TRUST when people say that "you'll know" about the contractions. Mine were terrible I couldn't talk but I was able to take the pain, I didn't cry or scream. It's nothing like you have ever felt before lol though. Mine were lower back and shot down my legs. What I did the night before was LIGHT cleaning and cooking (mom and aunt were over so they did a lot of hard work), ate some pineapple, and had sex...I think the latter caused the water breaking.
Funny story is that my husbands friend came over to hangout with him and he told my husband that 3 other people's wives went into labor when he visited and left their house. He told me that BEFORE my water broke lol. His friend isn't with the mother of his child but her water also broke the night that he visited her. Just super crazy!
Hang in there and let me say all the pain is worth every second of having your miracle afterwards. Good luck ladies :)
