For a long time now I have been fond of the nickname Cass for our boy. I eventually put the idea away because I didn't care for any of the names it might be short for such as Cassidy or Casper. Today though, I decided that we could name him Charles, a family name, and call him Cass for short. I don't know why, but it sounds so nice to me. This way he gets a cute nickname, but still has a strong, classic name. My brother goes by Charlie, so it would feel weird calling my son Charlie. Cass is not a traditional nickname for Charles, but I like it. Any thoughts?
Re: Is this too weird?
Haha. That's funny. John is my oldest son's name, and we call him Jack. I guess I have a thing for nicknames.
Sure, Cass is a stretch, but it's a nickname so it doesn't really matter.
Yeah I think you can get away with it. I was thinking the same thing - actually I was thinking about Mary = Polly and Margaret = Peggy for some reason.
Her other nn is "Feather" - as in "featherweight" - and we call her that casually.
So don't worry too much about it.
But anyway, I like it. Nickname doesn't have to be in any way associated with the actual name given, like someone else mentioned.
