Stretch Marks!

I don't have them yet, but I don't want to get them! I think I'm going to start using something now.

Any suggestions? What are you all using/plan on using? Had bad experiences with any?

Re: Stretch Marks!

  • Coconut oil, neck to upper thighs. After every shower. Before bed.

    And good genes.

  • I use Burts bees cocoa butter and also palmers spray on oil. The cocoa butter is a really thick lotion. It doesn't come in a bottle, but a container. It worked really well for me last time...not a single stretch mark. But I do agree with having good genes.
  • Most of what I've read says that it's more about genetics over anything else. Some people are just more prone to them than others.

With that said, I religiously put Shea butter on my belly twice a day during my last pregnancy, because it can't hurt...

  • I am using SYS by Advocare because they helped get rid of mine after my second pregnancy. I didn't get any with my first thanks to earth mama angel baby's oil. So I use that after a shower, and SYS before bed.

  • It's definitely in your genes! But even knowing that, I lathered my belly, butt and boobs with Palmers and Bio oil during my last pregnancy and I have zero stretch marks from my pregnancy (my mom didn't have any either fwiw). Now stretch marks on my boobs due to breastfeeding is a whole other ballgame lol
  • I used oils, lotions...all the things.  My first was a week late, and during that week, I developed a few stretch marks.  They're really not that big of a deal - you did just grow and deliver a human being... :)  It's about your genetics/elasticity of your skin.  Lotion can't truly help that, just like it can't get rid of cellulite.  It sure does feel and smell good though!

  • I used lots of Palmer's Cocoa Butter during my first pregnancy. I liked the smell, and it felt good on my stretched, itchy skin. Still got stretch marks. They're really no big deal.

  • I use bio oil 2times a day ...i all so did for my last pregnancy and i didn't get stretch marks
  • I question if anything really works. I think it's all in the gradual weight gain and genes. I would say make sure you eat healthy and gain appropriate weight. Even only gaining 23 lbs with my last I got a couple of small ones at the bottom of my belly. It is what it is. I don't like it but I like my son more and I feel I did everything I could.

  • I used bio oil the whole 2nd and 3rd trimester and still wound up with my tiger stripes. I now wear them with pride bc why not? My body does freaking amazing things. And I now have the proof to show it. For the ladies who never get them, that's awesome. But for those of us who do, nothing to be embarrassed about. Be proud.

  • Wow! I had know idea it had anything to do with genetics! Thank you all for the info and helpful suggestions as well.
  • I think it's all about genetics.  I don't have a single stretch mark from DD (~30lb weight gain), but my mother never got them either.  I also used Mother's Friend Lotion (but it's really an oil) on my tummy after every shower once I started showing.

  • No stretch marks aren't a huge deal. But I cried like a baby when I got them at 30+ weeks. I thought I had avoided them lol

Genetics predetermine it. And they do fade eventually. I don't care about them now. But know it's okay if you do get them and are upset. It's worth that prize at the end!
  • I use Palmer's Cocoa Butter for stretch marks religiously!  I used my my last pregnancy and got no new stretch marks!  Genes do play a lot into it, but I also think that other factors can contribute so it doesn't hurt to apply something :)
  • They are definitely genetic but it doesnt hurt to make sure your skin stays moisturized.

FWIW - this is baby #4 and I have never done anything other than lotion and I don't have any stretch marks.

  • I used coconut oil and body butter the last time. I wasn't crazy about applying it all the time or anything. Maybe every couple days at night. No issue with stretchmarks until my milk came in - no one warns you about those ones!
