Night Shift Husbands

Anyone else have a husband who works all through the night? And sleeps most of the day?

How does it make you feel? Are you used to it? Or do you hate it?

Re: Night Shift Husbands

  • Yep! My husband is a bar manager so he works from 9pm until 3am and then sleeps in until about 2:30 in the afternoon. I'm pretty much used to it now. Some days I get frustrated though because I want him to wake up and spend time with me, especially on the one day off we have together. He's a night owl, which will probably be really helpful when baby comes!

  • Hubby is about to go back to nights. They do 3 month rotations of days, nights, swing. It works well for us right now because we actually get to see each other (I get off at 6 and he goes to work at 10) I like it a lot more than when he works swing.

  • I have been trying to get hubby to just do days, but his company said there's no work for him during the day, or at least before bed time (12am at latest). So it's hard because he works from 10pm-6am and I work days.. I also really want him to be around for babies first nights.. @AmMcc12
  • Yeah by August DH should be back on days by then and he is planning on taking some paternity leave so that wil be nice

  • My husband is a power lineman and used to work midnights until recently, so I feel all of your pain!  It actually delayed our decision to start trying to conceive because his schedule was so difficult for him to adjust to and he was very unhappy [with working midnights.]  Anyway, about 2 months ago, he got switched to a day shift and then we started trying and now I'm almost 7 weeks :)

I am nervous because during the summer his day shift will switch to an evening shift from Memorial to Labor Day.  It's called a 4-10 shift, where you only work 4 days a week, but 10 hour days.  He will work from noon-10pm, but will have to stay later if there is power outages (obviously!)  Our EDD is 08/04/16 and while I am excited he will only be working 4 days a week at that time and will be around more, it is also my worst fear that I go into labor when he is at work, which is about an hour away from where we live and hour an a half from the hospital I will be delivering at.  Trying not to worry about it until the time gets closer !!
  • My husband has a rotating 12 hour schedule, he works nights every other week. I'm not a fan
  • My husband works nights. 2 on, 2 off and everyother weekend, 12 hour shifts. I am used to it, but I also hate it! He's always so tired.
  • My husband is a detective for the police department. He went on nights just before our son was born. I hate it bc he is always so tired and doesn't have as much time to spend with our son as we would like. Plus he does not ever have weekends off. It sucks :/

  • My husband is a sgt at a police department. Kind of works a swing shift between second and thirds. It's not the worst. We don't need day care because I get out at 3p and he goes in at 4p but it's obviously not fun because I take care of DS at night. On our days off I go to bed early and he's up till at least midnight. I guess the good thing is when the new baby comes someone will be more apt to get up than the other one. I think it works out at the end.
