Yet another HCG question.

So I keep seeing you guys posting about HCG levels and whether or not they are doubling.  My doctor only tested my levels the one time, and they were good, but obviously I can't know if they are growing.  I don't have my ultrasound until January 4th.  I've been feeling really anxious the last few days, especially because I haven't been having any pregnancy symptoms, and I feel like I could use some reassurance.  Do you think I should call and ask them to test my HCG levels again, or will the doctor think I'm bsc?  I feel pretty crazy, but I also feel like I want to know that everything is ok.

Re: Yet another HCG question.

  • With my first two they only checked mine once...they only checked twice this time around because I've had 2 miscarriages. I wouldn't stress...sometimes techn

  • With my first they only checked once but because of my MC they are checking more regularly. I don't think it's something you need to stress about but I also think it's totally appropriate to call and ask if you can come in for another blood draw. I'm sure it won't be the first time someone has asked for it (I always comfort myself with the idea that they have surely had crazier patients than me  ).

  • Mine hasn't even ordered blood work for me yet! And isn't going to order blood work to check for HCG/progesterone because I don't have any history of issues. I think it's fairly normal to not have your HCG checked (unless you've had previous MCs or related issues). Try to relax, but if you're really stressed over it then it won't hurt to call and ask.

I was worried about it and have had 2 beta hcg tests done after the initial test. I requested them from my doctor because I was worried about the baby's development after past difficulties and they had me test twice. The levels were very good so they said after that I should be fine :)

  • My doctor doesn't do any HCG tests unless you have a history of loss. So I haven't had any blood work yet and won't until my first appointment January 7th. So I totally understand the anxiety, and it's worth asking your doctor if you want, but know that it's perfectly normal not to do the repeat HCG test (or any at all).

  • They didn't check my HCG with my first pregnancy either, which was a perfectly healthy 9 month pregnancy. :)

To give myself reassurance, I kept taking at home tests every other day until I ran out (I had the Amazon test strips and had 10 or so left after my first BFP). By the time I was 5 weeks, the positive line would show up literally within seconds, which was reassuring.
