Sleep Tips?

Hoping others can help; for the past week or so I've had trouble sleeping. I am 6w today. It started with vivid (and really wierd!) dreams and needing to pee every few hours. It has now also become waking with the semi-nauseating feeling of a stomach ache. The nurse/midwife told me there's a fine line between hunger and nausea. I don't recall this with my first child. Anyone have tips? Snacking anytime I wake seems like it would wake me more.

Re: Sleep Tips?

  • This pregnancy I found I was having trouble sleeping even before I tested. I'm 6w 4d now and it's starting to get better. I cut back on what I drink in the evening, and don't get in bed until I am really tired. And drinking water all day has seemed to help with nausea a little. What time do you take your prenatal vitamin? It can make some women feel yucky, which I remember it did with my first, so I take it right before bed

  • That's a good point. I usually take it with lunch but forgot yesterday so didn't take it until 6 with dinner. I was exhausted and crashed around 745pm. Once it hit 11pm I was up every hour or so. :/ I finally feel asleep after a few pretzels around 2. It was a long night!
  • I know if I went to bed that early I would not stay asleep all night. I've been taking 30 minute naps during the day just so I can stay up until at least close to my normal bedtime. That seems to be helping me too. And definitely try taking your vitamin before bed. It can't hurt, and maybe you will feel better
  • Try eating something high in protein right before bed maybe so it sticks with you through the night?  Yogurt, cheese, something like that.  I'm no nutritionist, but I do know that carbs are going to burn through your system quickly.  The peeing thing may not have much to do with what or when you're drinking either - you've got lots of changes going on that can simply make you need to urinate more often and sorry to say it, but that'll be there for the long haul.  I've experienced lots of sleeping issues with both of my first two pregnancies and this one is the same - try and relax, get as comfortable as possible, and do your best to stay positive.  The hopeful outcome is a sweet, squishy babe! :)
