I just found out my 2 month old has partial hearing loss and has to wear hearing aids for the rest of his life. Just asking for any love, support, advice, tips anything!! This is my first babes and it was a tough day and I guess I just wanna hear if anyone has any experience with this!

Re: Partial hearing loss

  • No experience personally but a close friend just went through this. Her little girl is 6 months and received her hearing aids about a month ago. The video of her the first day she got them discovering sound she had been missing out on was amazing. She is a happy and healthy little girl!!

I also have a cousin in a similar situation. He turned 11 last week and is the most rambunctious little boy you will ever meet. He fishes, swim, plays sports and has definitely not missed at on anything as a result!!

    Lots of hugs!!

  • One of my close friends was diagnosed at the same age. She's in her 30s, and the new hearing aids she has, you wouldn't even know they are there. He will do great! Hugs from my LO and I.
  • Lurker from the dec15 board. Partial hearing loss isn't as bad as full hearing loss. He will do amazing things :) I have a friend who is deaf in one ear so he wears one hearing aid. He is awesome and has become quite the accomplished artist. He occasionally just has to remind us to speak a little louder if we are on the deaf side but for the most part you wouldn't even know otherwise.
  • Thanks everyone! This is really nice to hear, I don't want my little dudes life to be any harder than life can be
  • I have a brilliant, beautiful friend who is a college professor (PhD) and well known in our large city for spearheading an amazing STEAM program in her free time. She is a mom of 3 and lost a significant amount of hearing with each of her pregnancies, necessitating hearing aids. They are so incredibly small that even when I am sitting next to her, I don't notice them...even when she has her hair pulled back. I am so sorry that you have to deal with this, but please have every confidence that it will not have any adverse impact in the long term.
  • The bright side is we live in an era where these things are diagnosed early and are treatable. I had an uncle who had a simple ear infection as a child that went untreated and he lost all hearing in that ear. Your LO will amaze you with his reziliance.
