Thoughts on Mary?

We thought we had landed on a name.....but for various reasons we are back to the drawing board.

We like older, classic names.....typically gravitating towards "cute" rather than long and complicated.

What is the general consensus on Mary? My husband worries it's too "bland and boring"....but I think it's been away from the Top spots for long enough where it will be unique again.

I like Mary. Simple and classic.

Love it! Mary is classic, not bland or boring at all. 

ETA: Molly is a diminutive of Mary that is very sweet as well.

It's not cute IMO. I know an old lady Mary. Plus most of the immigrants in our area take the English name Mary for simplicity.

Uh. That last part sounds like you're implying there's something wrong with using a name common amongst immigrants.

I really like it. I agree its been gone long enough to make it interesting on a child, as opposed to boring.

I personally love Mary! It's classic, classy, feminine, strong yet sweet sounding... all of that good stuff. Plus I don't think most people will think Mary and Molly are the same. I actually think they flow quite nicely together. It's a beautiful name!

im sorry I came across incorrectly.i mentioned that because it makes then name generic & common to me. I try to learn my friends African names rather than call them Mary.

According to Wikipedia, it's both a name on its own as well as a pet name for Mary, or Margaret. So, I guess you're technically not wrong, but it's not exactly the whole story either.

I think it's a little boring, honestly. I'd suggest something like Jane, Grace, or Joy instead, same feel but more exciting to me.

I think it's a little boring too. I'd more likely use it for a middle name than a first. There's nothing really wrong with it though...

It's my mother in law's name. Her mom's name is Marion. Peronally I like Marion better, Mary as a NN

Its okay... its just that there are SO MANY beautiful names out there and Mary, imo, is just meh. What about Maria, Marissa, Mallory, Mabel, Maribel, Melissa, Marilyn, Marta, Mia, Mila,  Rosemary, Rosamund

Mary is a great name! I have it short listed for a second daughter if we have one. Mary is #120 in the US according to BTN so it's very unlikely that she would run in to a lot of other Marys. Go for it.

Mary is simple and classic. It is a wonderfful name, it is also refreshing in the sea of made up mispelled names we are constantly seeing. Ill take spelled correctly and classic any day.

BUT i wouldnt pair it with molly
