Witching hour

Hi all, have any of you that dealt with the witching hour seen it come to an end yet? If so, how old? My LO is 10 weeks and it's still a battle every night from 6-8, sometime even longer. When will it end?!!!!

Re: Witching hour

  • My LO is 12 weeks and we are starting to see the end of the witching hour as of 5 days ago. She has been a fussy baby during the day too so we started her on a probiotic and it seems to be helping all around. The evenings are much better as well. Hang in there mamma! I hope it ends soon for you!

  • Our baby is 15 weeks and it stopped awhile ago around 8 weeks, but we have a few tricks we use at night when he starts getting fussy but it isn't bedtime yet. He loves to be naked, so when he gets fussy we take his clothes off except for his diaper and let him play and roll around on the floor. He loves it! Then we also do bath time since he loves that and it helps pass the time :) Part of that time is also nursing so he's happy because he's eating!
  • My baby just turned 12 weeks Friday and its gotten worse! For some reason in the past week he fights sleep at night harder than ever and he's waking more frequently at night. I thought it was supposed to get easier around this time! I keep thinking growth spurts or wonder weeks or something. But maybe I just have a baby who will never sleep well.
  • Have you tried putting baby to bed?
  • My LO's witching hour is from 7-11 every night when all he wants to
Do is nurse. It's exhausting!!!! There's a great article about it on kelly mom https://kellymom.com/parenting/parenting-faq/fussy-evening/

I know I'm not alone and hopeful that it will end soon. He is 12 weeks on Tuesday and the article states the fussiness should stop at 3-4 months. Fingers crossed, I go back to work in 5 weeks and I work nights. My husband will be doomed watching him.
  • Ours is 14 weeks and starting to pass. It's so sad, he doesn't want to nurse or sleep or anything but he's exhausted and hungry all at the same time I think!! I'm ready for the witching hour to end.
  • Holy hell I had no idea this had a name!!! We kept moving LOs bath and bedtime back because the last hour to 2 hours before bed he turned into an angry little dude. It finally stopped about 2 weeks ago (almost 13 weeks)

  • Ours in still going strong at 16.5 weeks: it's like there's a thunderstorm in our house in the evening. Fingers crossed it stops soon. We've tried dimming the lights, playing soft music, ect, but so far it's all a no go, we just have to wait it out.
  • I'm going to try taking her clothes off and letting her roll around with just a diaper - for some reason she's so happy when she's naked. She gets so fussy in the evenings so I'm gonna try it and see if it helps.
  • Mine stopped doing the witching hour a while ago, maybe around 6 weeks? He's 13 weeks now. He does get overtired in the evenings sometimes, but I thought the witching hour was crying for no reason, and now he doesn't cry without something being up.
  • For us it stopped around 7 years for the first three boys
