Baby Names

Final short list

We already decided on Alexander James if bean is a boy. We've read through thousands of girl names and only have 4 contenders. Husband likes long names and I like short names. We aggreed if we pick a long name, I have to like the nickname and it will probably get called the nickname. He just wants a longer name so they have the choice of what to be called when they are older. Here is our List:

Kaitlyn (Katie)

Addison (Addie)

Alexandria (Alex)

Madison (Maddie/Maddy)

  • Agree that Madison and Addison are super trendy and boring now. Disagree they're masculine - yes, maybe originally, but ever since they've gotten popular over the past 5 or so years it's been all girls with those names.

I'm a fan of Kaitlyn or Alexandria. I think the C or K version of Kaitlyn is totally acceptable, both are used so frequently neither is "speshul". Not like it's Kaytlynne.

Both mean -son of. I'll concede that names like Aubrey and Ashley are "feminine " due to usage, but their meanings (elf power and ash tree clearing) are not masculine.

Mouse is a popular name for cats, but we don’t say mice are now cats because of it.
  • I like Alexandria/Alex best. (I like Alexandra even better.) Alex is a great nn. Your other names are just too overdone. The world doesn't need any more Addies or Maddies.
  • I loooove Alexandria!
    DD: Ophelia 5/18/15
  • I like Kaitlyn (I know 2 grown ups spelled this way)
    Then these follow favorite first.
    Madison
    Addison
    Alexandria
  • I like Kaitlyn.

Is there any reason you chose Alexandria instead of Alexandra?  It's fine, but it reminds me of a town in Virginia, and I think your child would get called Alexandra all the time by mistake.

I am not a fan of Addison or Madison personally, and they are way trendy.
  • I know an Alexandria that goes by Dria, which I think is a great nn option.
  • Addison makes me think of a horribly sad disease. (sorry) what about Elizabeth or Penelope? Both have TONS of cute nn's!

  • Alexandra or Caitlyn.

Toss Addison and Madison. Both are tired, trendy, and masculine.

I agree with all of this.
