Aversions?!?

There's already a cravings post, but what about aversions?!  During my last pregnancy I seemed to notice the aversions way more than the cravings.  So far I can't stand the smell of melting parmesan cheese, pulled pork in the crock pot, or garlic coming from the cafe at work.  Puke!  Last time I couldn't stand the smell of DH's shower gel (wtf?!?), any kind of meat that was cooking, and I couldn't go near the cafe at work without gagging because of the strong smells regardless of what they were cooking.

Re: Aversions?!?

  • Everything, The thought of food turns my stomach. I have been forcing food in all day today because I get more nauseous on an empty stomach.

  • mumblefrog86 oh no!  Have you asked you doc if there are any anti-nausea meds you can take?  I don't have nausea yet, but certain smells are super gag-worthy.  Same thing happened to me the first time, I was never really nauseous and never puked, but I couldn't stand the thought (or SMELL) of certain foods for a while.  It mostly passed after about 8 weeks.  Hope you can find some relief!

Smell. If I can smell it, I am NOT eating it... which has been interesting with this new nose I also seem to have gotten. Anything which doesn't smell seems to be okay so far.

  • I'm only 5w so nothing's kicked in completely, but I will say that salty foods sound SO much better than sweet foods. And normally I live for dessert.
  • I'm almost 7 weeks, i have good and bad days but mostly bad with food aversions. My husband decided to bring home some venison he got while hunting, the smell repulsed me to my core, i think it normally would have anyways though. Onions bother me and melty cheese. Im Italian...i love both of those :( I have always loved food, so this has been a huge struggle. My stomach growls and feels empty constantly. I have to force myself to eat. No puking yet....everyone knock on wood now please, but nausea and complete loss of appetite. I usually can do a banana, pb&j, some saltines, plain bagels and plain oatmeal in a day...and at least 40-50oz of liquids, mostly water. Preggie pops and popsicles have become lifesavers. First appointment isn't until Tuesday after Christmas, deffinately want something to take away nausea and give me back my appetite. I miss food :(
  • @ZepPM3 i was the exact same way 2 weeks ago, i swear i could have fricken bought a salt lick for crying out loud.
  • I can't stand the smell of hot pockets apparently O.o or bitter melon or chlorine.

I have very little appetite and always feel queasy or on the edge of queasy. It's been hard to keep eating because even if I do settle on something finally that's palatable I feel awful halfway through eating it :(

I've been subsisting on plain protein sources like sausage, cheese and milk for dairy, bananas with pb&j, veggie burgers, and sorbet. Sorbet tastes SO good right now!!!!! Especially the lemon one.

  • I love coffee. Lately, it has been making me queasy. This morning, I threw up while trying to make it.
  • Chocolate :( the saddest aversion ever)
