I am 37 weeks, tomorrow, with our first and we hope to deliver naturally. However, I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes at 32 weeks! I've been successful at controlling my blood sugars via diet/exercise, thank goodness, however it seems as though our baby is going to be on the larger scale anyway. Ultrasound estimates are showing 8lbs 7oz (@36w4d) with a 20oz margin. My doctor has already expressed that they don't suggest natural birth once the baby has reached a certain weight (4500g/9.9lbs) as the risk of getting stuck in the birth canal is raised. Being a high risk pregnancy already (we have a two-vessel umbilical cord) we obviously don't want any more risk added on to our situation. I keep stressing to my doctor how much I wanted a natural labor/birth and how important it is to me in hopes that if our baby is measuring proportionately (disproportionate growth is the risk with GD) he'll give me a chance to do it naturally rather than rushing to schedule a c-section. Not really looking for answers per say, more so just venting. I've heard of doctors being understanding during the pregnancy and then pressuring women last minute into medical intervention, and I guess I'm just worried that's what I'm walking into. I never thought I'd say it, but I hope I go into labor early so that we can have a natural birth. Being surrounded by women who induced for things as petty as to attend a party doesn't help either. They keep making it sound like I'm being ridiculous for caring so much. /sigh.
