WWYD?

My mom had major back surgery a few days ago, and I can tell that she's really struggling with the amount of pain that she's in and she seems very bummed out about being laid up for a few weeks. Her primary motivation for having the surgery now was so that she'll be able to carry, pick up, and play with bubs once he's more mobile. I know it would lift her spirits a lot to see him, but I'm (probably irrationally) worried about taking him up to see her at the hospital (she won't be home until the middle of next week at the earliest). She's in a private room in the surgical wing, so it's not like we would be sitting in the ER waiting room with people coughing and sneezing everywhere, but I'm still anxious about bringing him up there.

What would you ladies do? Bring bubs up there or wait a week or so until she's home?

Re: WWYD?

  • My mom had a knee replacement just over two weeks ago.. I took Henry to see her the night after her surgery. I asked the nurse about it at her class before the surgery to get her opinion on whether it was ok/safe. She was in the ortho unit and they said it would be ok. We only stayed about 30 minutes, and her mood perked wayyyyyy up from seeing him.

Yea, my boobs don't work so that's not really an option.

Thanks for your input. I was 95% sure I was stressing over nothing. :)

  • Bring him! Private room, med/surg or ortho unit, no worries. Bet she'd love to see him!
  • Call the unit first because some don't allow kids under 6, but yes bring him for a visit just don't let him touch much. I'm a nurse and hospitals are not as clean as we would like. Too many people in and out.
  • My ped office is in the hospital. I always avoid the ER enterence and keep the car seat covered when walking through. I bet it would make her day to see him!
