3rd Trimester

Exercise DVDs for Third Tri?

I am looking for recommendations for prenatal workout DVDs for someone just starting to workout in third trimester. I was fit and worked out about 3-4x a week before getting pregnant, but morning sickness hit me hard until about 22 weeks and I pretty much barely got out of bed, then I just kind of slacked off after I started feeling better. Its been quite awhile since I've done more than go for an occasional walk, but now its been pouring rain so I am not even doing that. I am finally feeling like I need to move more. I think it would help me sleep and help with some of the aches and pains I am getting from sitting at my desk all day.

I'm looking for something short, like 20 minutes and a fairly low impact, moderate workout. I love yoga and I have a prenatal yoga DVD but it is 60 minutes and I just don't have the time for that right now. It seems like all the amazon recommendations are from people judging a workout based on it being really challenging enough because they are used to running 20 miles a week or something. I don't need that kind of intensity. I just want to move and stretch and break a little sweat.

Any recommendations?

  • Prenatal Pilates Ten Minute Solutions. It's five segments that are each ten minutes. You need a light set of hand weights, a mat, and two pillows.
  • I really like Susan Bowen's Prenatal Barre workout: https://www.amazon.com/Suzanne-Bowens-Toned-Prenatal-Workout/dp/B008X7JBPM

The workouts are all around 25ish minutes, and there are four total: lower body, upper body, cardio, and stretching.

I bought this when I was 14 weeks and thought it was way too easy, but once I hit the third trimester, it's perfect.  It feels challenging but still safe.

I was going to recommend this one as well. I've been doing it pretty much my whole pregnancy, when I'm feeling up to it. There are mods for 3rd tri that are easier, but you still feel like you are actually getting a workout.

I tend to stay away from YouTube for fitness videos because I'm in the fitness industry and there are a lot of people out there posting fitness videos without any sort of qualifications or background that would make them qualified to provide a safe workout, especially for prenatal fitness. Even if they say they have the credentials, its hard to know. Unless it's an instructor that I know for a fact has the proper credentials, background and specializes in prenatal workouts I wouldn't trust someone on YouTube to give me workout advice. I was looking for a video because those are usually produced by companies that have exercise medicine specialists approve the workouts before they can release them.
