Sleep tip!

I cannot remember if I read this advice in a thread here or somewhere else online (pregnancy brain!) but for anyone else who has been struggling with sleep like I have, I heard it helps to turn the temperature down to 68 or lower when you're sleeping.  We set our A/C to 68 last night (it had been 73) and it really, really made a difference!  I still woke up a few times to pee, but I feel like I slept much more deeply when I was asleep.  Hope this helps anyone else who's struggling!

@kimber308  - LOL.  Belatedly realizing it's December (it's hard to remember when it's 82 degrees here in LA today!) and that this may not apply to that many people, haha.  Maybe our friends in the Southern Hemisphere!
  • Ours is 68 and I'm burning! Although my doctor did say Tylenol PM is okay to take to help get longer stretches of sleep...
  • Our is set for 68 and I have to have a fan on! lol  i don't think it matters what the temp is at this point in the game for me.  I'm just down right uncomfortable anyway you put it.

Haha... that's funny that you had to turn your A/C on to get it to 68. At my house we have to turn our heat on to get it above 55, and my husband only let's us keep it at 62 (no higher). I will say though that I sleep very well with the cool temperature. Enjoy your warm weather!!!
haha I was thinking the same thing.  Michigander here.  No problems keeping it cool in the house at the moment. :-P

  • My husband keeps our house at 58 at night and I still wake up at 4 am wide awake. Will be "toasty" when we keep the house at 68 when the baby arrives
  • If my AC would run colder than 67, I'd set it lower. Unfortunate it freezes over at that point.

Not sure the mechanics of it but maybe once the cold weather hits it will be able to go lower because it won't be working as hard? Fingers crossed.

I know the grass is always greener and it must be difficult getting bundled up with a huge bump and the near inability to put on socks and shoes, or to bundle up a toddler for every outing, but it might get as hot as 90 here this week.

I don't even know how to use the heater in the car, no joke.

If it got down to the low 40s high 30s, I'd put sweaters on my dogs, open the windows and sleep under blankets, then I'd take the longest hottest shower ever and go to Starbucks for a hot (not iced) dry cappuccino.

Worst part is toddler saw snow on a cartoon and keeps asking when we'll get to build a snowman, "Never honey. We can build a sandcastle."

    Ah, a girl can dream.

Haha!  Yeah, we spent last Christmas taking the dog to the beach.  (He wore a Santa suit.)

In in LA too and we have the heater set to 66. It will bring it up to 70 at 6am (when I get up). I know we are "spoiled" at these temperatures but remember, cold and hot is relative - if you lived here too you'd feel it differently ;)

  • I'm up in NH but we turn the heating down to 60 every night (instead of the daytime 65) which is making sleeping easier, so I say good tip no matter where you are!

I wouldn't trade to get that super hot weather right now, not with the big bump, but I refuse to buy a maternity coat for 2 months so keeping warm outside is getting trickier!
  • We do 66.. and both my SO and I are sleeping better. But i also stole the baby's boppy pillow and I may never give it back! It's exactly right on my neck and props me up so well that I'm much more comfortable.
  • Goodness I wish we could bump our air down to 68! Our unit is from the about 1970 and runs best when kept at the mid to high 70's. But we rarely run it. We're hoping to get through this winter before replacing it next spring. We've got the house open right now, although it's only about 72 out right now.

  • Ours is set for somewhere between 60 and 65 right now.  It's roughly 30 outside.  I'm sweating my butt off in a tank and undies while everyone else is wearing sweats here.  I can't wait to have a normal body temp again.

@Ebiejay Google kokoala. I live in MA and got one for my jacket. Amazinggg
  • I wish my ac was in my bedroom we only have it in the lounge. :( my lounge is so uncomfy to sleep on and so far from the toilet.
  • We have our hear set at 71 right now and it's too much!!! Hubby is worried about his mom who is coming to town next week and complains about EVERYTHING so he wants her to be comfy since it's warmer where she is coming from. It takes she house a while to adjust so he wants it to be ready.
  • I have kept the heat off all but two days so far in this balmy NY winter. Sometimes we'll turn it on for a few hours during the day but at night it's off, and the bedroom window is open! It's been around 50 at night, sometimes a little cooler. I like it polar for sleeping. All I sleep with is a down summer blanket. DH wears jammies and sometimes throws an extra blanket on himself.
  • After ready this thread yesterday I turned the heat down last night.

After reading this yesterday, I turned down our heat last night. I slept so well and only woke up once to pee. Who knows if it was actually the temperature that made the difference but that's what I'm going with today!!!!! Thank you thank you thank you!
  • I always sleep with the window open, fan and ceiling fan on and it never helps me. Once I wake up to pee I toss and turn.
  • @GinnyBarette - Yay!  That's awesome!  :)
  • Ours is always really low and I keep a fan on 24/7. I would never be able to sleep if it was 73!

Yes yes yes! Floridian here, we keep the a/c on 65 and run our ceiling fan and oscillating fan. When it gets chilly outside we open the windows and keep the fans going. Perfect anytime but especially for 3rd tri sleeping!
  • Ugh! All of you guys are LUCKY!
I've been content with no heat on. SO (and roommate) is too cold and they turn on the heat.
I'm sweating with no pants on, fan on, no blanket.....
    Ugh. It sucks.
