3rd Trimester

DD from Dec 24th til Jan 8th?

Hello...
At the beginning of my pregnancy I was given a due date of January 8. Last week I was told that my due date had turned into a two week time space of anywhere from December 24th to January 8th. What? When I asked what had made them give me a two-week gap for a DD they basically said its "safer" that way and we all can be "more prepared". Also I guess they did the math on my first 2 pregnancies and my daughter came a week early and my son was near 2 weeks early. My daughter will be 9 in April, and my son is 7. I had them at a young age so I personally feel my tiny body didn't handle pregnancy the way it can now, but then again I'm no doctor. Having them stretch my DD out that much sooner has me a little uneasy. That's a pretty big gap to be thinking every day "is he coming today? Are we ready for this? Was that a contraction!??!". It has been so long since I have been pregnant that I feel like I don't know anything anymore, I don't remember contractions exactly (other than they hurt my back with my daughter). I remember that I have never had my water break by itself, I don't remember losing my mucous plug...and this is my first home birth. I'm now really nervous!! I keep trying to tell myself that the baby will come whenever he is ready no matter what day that will be but I can't stop thinking about how much less time I have than I thought I had. Anybody else experience a huge DD time frame?

  • Whether a doctor says it or not 9 times out of 10 everyone has a 2 week give or take time frame. That's why they call it an "estimated" due date. Like you said, baby will come when baby is ready so just try to relax :)

  • My OB says two weeks before and two weeks after your EDD is the range. Both my boys came a few days after my EDD. Don't panic. Once you go into active labor with real contractions you'll know, and remember what it felt like.

  • Yeah I wouldn't worry about it either.  Just take it a day at a time.

  • Thank you  I think it's just the fact that for 90% of my pregnancy they only ever mentioned January and then mentioned December was a good possibility too and it just put my brain into overdrive. I feel very prepared for the arrival in the sense that I have absolutely everything needed for the baby and then some, and I'm excited for it to happen most of the time but I feel like I could be unprepared mentally for what I feel is an "early arrival" even though technically it's not very early at all. I just need to relax my thoughts and remind myself that this is nothing new for me. I've been there, done that, and I got this no matter when he decides to make his arrival. I have everything he needs material wise and my love for him is unconditional and stronger than words can describe. I think what I'm worried about the most is his development and health. I want him in there for as long as he needs to be. thanks though guys, I'm glad to hear encouraging & reassuring words

That is definitely very important! All you can do is wait for baby to come when he's ready...early or not. But fingers crossed he cooks as long as possible :)
  • No worries! My doctor told me the same. Anywhere between December 23rd and January 7th for me.

Wow we are super close!
  • I was told the same thing...not as long of a span but still a week!! I was at first told April 9th and then after my AS they changed it too Mar 25-Apr 2! They had issues with my last MC because my Mirena IUD broke so I had no for sure last cycle except when I was still on my IUD before it had to be removed!! I'm not worried about it too much, just planning for the earlier and waiting it out!! only thing we can do!! Good luck to you and yours!!
  • I just made sure I had all the necessities prepared and set up early. I really have no clue when my baby will decide to arrive but as long as he is healthy that's all I care about. Everything is set up and on standby awaiting his arrival so whenever the time comes we have nothing to stress about. The only thing I have my fingers crossed for is the fact that my midwives are supposed to be the ones to provide the pool and they keep saying "well if we don't have one available then we'll just do the birth in your bed". I really have my heart set on doing a water birth at home but I guess if the time comes and they don't have one I'll do whatever they suggest. I'm actually starting to like the idea of having a surprise birth that just kinda comes by surprise now that my husband and I have double checked and prepared everything and anything baby may need/use.
I'm glad you're staying so positive! I am also glad to hear I'm not the only one with a DD stretch lol thanks and good luck with everything!@shelbibrooke82
