3rd Trimester

Pressure

FTM, 35 weeks on this Thursday.. Contractions where 7 mins apart last night. Took a warm bath and drank tons of water.. Got them to 10 minutes apart... Today, contractions are still happening, just not as strong or common, but I have tons of pressure in my vagina (not the pelvic area,
Literally between my legs).... On the 29th of November I was 2 cm dilated... What should I do? I don't wanna be ones of those
People that call or go to the doctor every time I feel pain.

Re: Pressure

  • Pressure can be tricky. It could be that baby has "dropped" and if you're a ftm that could actually be what you're feeling. But to be completely honest, if you're feeling worried or uncertain you can always go to L&D to be checked out. The dilation doesn't really mean a lot as you can be 2-4 cm dilated for weeks (or even months) at a time. The doctors and nurses are there for you so don't be worried about going if you're nervous about something being wrong or off. Good luck :)

  • I agree with @kynbar5  i was dilated with #2 at 2cm for a LONG time with a TON of pressure.  I would definitely watch the contractions though.  make sure you're getting enough water/liquids and rest.  Don't push yourself.  I know it's hard around the holidays though.  take care of yourself and if you're nervous do call your doctor.  that's what they're there for.  :)

  • You know things are serious when the contractions are predictable and don't ease up after relaxing or drinking water. I also think a trip to L&D is fine if you are concerned but just know that they might send you home.

With that being said, I waited too long and almost had my daughter in the car :(

  • I'm 35+4 and have also been feeling tremendous pressure down below.
It's sometimes so bad that I can hardly walk or even sit upright and have to lie down. I have been having irregular contractions but they are definitely just Braxton Hicks as there's absolutely no pattern and they are more uncomfortable than painful. My last midwife appointment was 3 weeks ago and she said the baby's head was 3/5 engaged then and seemed surprised about this... Though having read up on it this actually seems normal. Got another appointment on Monday and I think I'll get her to check my cervix.
I'm also really puffy and swollen down there, probably from the pressure and increased blood flow.
