I feel like I'm losing it! I'm 15 weeks 4 days and my 2nd uti is coming on!!!! Is anyone else getting them? I'm so worried about them as I'm a high risk pregnancy and any pain down there puts me in constant freak out mode.
I just got my first uti ever this pregnancy. I hear it's common, but I hate taking extra meds during pregnancy. I already take enough for nausea. I actually went to the dr with no symptoms and they noticed it in my pee. The next morning (before starting the antibiotics) sure enough it was burning. I'm hoping it'll be all cleared up soon!
I am a high risk also and have been getting them too it is normal and the worse thing to do is go into freak out mode its not good for mom or baby. I have gotten 2 of them and I'm 19 weeks. Don't worry it is normal
I had one when I was around 10 weeks maybe? No symptoms, it was found when they tested my urine. I took antibiotics and it went away. My nurse told me they are very common in pregnancy, plus they are easily treatable so try not to worry!
So I get them too. I've had one so far with this pregnancy. And what I stopped doing was drinking cranberry juice every day. Lame. So I'm back to my old routine, which is a cup of cranberry juice when I first wake up in the morning as the first beverage I drink after emptying my bladder. According to my doctor this coats your bladder to prevent infection. Then within ten to twenty minutes I have a glass of water and then my half a cup of coffee! I also drink tons of water throughout the day (more than the 8 glasses worth)... And this keeps me from getting UTI's altogether!
Update: I also drink the organic cranberry juice as I was told by a midwife at our doctors office that the processed cranberry juice does not have the same affect on your bladder to prevent infection. If you're drinking the non organic processed stuff your basically just drinking sugar water with some added flavor.
I had one the first time I had my urine tested. Asymptomatic and I never got any symptoms actually. I had it tested again at my next appointment after taking some antibiotics and it had gone away. Very easily treated. I drink cranberry juice pretty regularly now and lots of water to keep any more of them away.

My dr told me the same thing about most cranberry juice being bad for me as it usually has a lot of apple or grape juice in it plus added sugar. I now buy the organic 100% pure cranberry juice. It's very bitter and cannot be drank alone, I just mix it with water. It's also $10 a bottle! I do believe it is helping though so it's worth it not to be miserable.
I've had one very small one this pregnancy, but I've gotten them a lot. Drink lots of water (flushes out the bacteria). The reason scientists think cranberry juice works is it has tanens in it (like wine) so any juice like that would work- particularly cranberry, blueberry, and pomegranate. I've also found that taking a long shower and just relaxing will do the trick.
I had one that pretty much lasted a month... First doc put me on macrobid, I am apparently allergic to it, and it didn't work. Then I went on 2 rounds of ampicillin and it still didn't knock it out. Finally got a shot of rocephen that knocked it out.
If you get really desperate....drinking apple cider vinegar can help prevent and even help clear up utis. I drink it daily to help with all sorts of things... (like a tablespoon worth in some warm lemon water in the am). Its terrible...but so good for you!
Also...side note: I get uti's way too often... and even had surgery as a kid to help with it.
I had to go to the ER last night because my back/side was hurting so bad. The Dr diagnosed me with a uti. I had no other symptoms but back pain! I thought it was weird. (Maybe I was peeing more often but didn't think anything of it since baby's sitting there).
The comfort I have is that they are common in pregnancy and usually very treatable. I hope you feel better soon!!
@js8812 my doctor told me NOT to take the cranberry tablets. She said they typically add additional ingredients that are not safe for pregnancy. So I would check with my OB first to make sure any cranberry tablets you choose are safe for you and baby!
I used to add baking soda to water (about a teaspoon per 8oz glass) and would drink that once in the morning and once in the evening. I found that it would speed things up. I am not sure though if that would be safe for pregnancy (although do see why it wouldn't be safe)
Yes I actually had one go undetected at the Dr. None of the usual symptoms & within 3 weeks there was blood in my urine & kidney swelling. Had to spend a night in the hospital with Iv antibiotics. Now I'm very cautious but I seem to be so much more succeptable now it's aggravating. I don't see how cranberry juice helps but i drink it as a precaution lol
