Frozen Embryo numbers

Hi Everyone,

So after my retrieval I was diagnosed with moderate OHSS and we are definitely now only doing a frozen transfer because of the state that my body is in (My ovaries are about 10 cm each).  At the retrieval we had 19 follicles, 11 fertilized and when I spoke to the embryologist this morning she said she only was able to freeze 4 the rest had stopped growing.  She did, however, that they were four of the most perfect little blastocysts shes seen and that my eggs were the "rockstars" of the lab this week.  She said they were the embryos of a 23 year old (I am 31). I guess I am just so concerned about the number and there being 4 after so many fertilized.  This was my first retrieval and I don't really know the ropes when it comes to this stuff, so if anyone can offer advice I'd be so grateful.  Am I being over worried for no reason?

Congrats on those 4 snowflakes! As to your question, it's completlye normal for the numbers to reduce as the days go on. I started with 6 and ended up with only 1 frozen. I've seen others on here mention starting with 20 some and ending up with 2. So don't be worried! Just focus on those 4 perfect embabies! Fx for you!

I just met with my RE today to discuss IVF and she explained that if you have 10 eggs retreived, maybe 5 to 7 will fertilize, and then on average 25% of those will make it to a blastocyte, so I think your numbers are good! Even better since they seem to be such great quality! FX for you!

I am 31 also with no known issues, I only had 8 eggs retrieved, only 2 fertilized. One was transferred on day 3 and did not take. Luckily the other grew to a blast at day 6 and was frozen. As much as it sucks, I think that's pretty normal!

Ok, thanks ladies! I feel better.  It just feels like so much work to go through I think I was just feeling a little low.

I had 7 fertilized and none to freeze. We were grateful to have at least one embryo to transfer.

I had over 30 eggs retrieved and 17 fertilized. We were a day 6 transfer so by the time we got there I had two transferred and 1 frozen. Only 3 made it to day 6.

I am 29, well I was 28 when we did the retrieval. We had 12 eggs, 11 fertilized, 7 made it to day 5 and we transferred one and we have 6 frozen. Unfortunately the it ended in a miscarriage, but hopefully I get more luck with a FET.

I have been hearing good things about an FET, the chances are slightly better so I guess it is a good thing.

I'm 34. I had 6 retrieved, 5 of those fertilized and 3 made it to Day 5 and then frozen. I just transfered one back yesterday and I'm in my 2WW. Despite how it seems you had a good result. You have 4 opportunities at your BFP. Hopefully it only takes 1!!

@ShayLatrice how long after your period was your FET?

my last period was Nov 16th and my FET was Dec 8th. I was on Lupron so it really wasn't even a full period, I think it was only 2 days.

I had 13 retrieved, 10 mature. Of those 10, 7 fertilized. When it came to my 3- day transfer, we were told only 4 were of good/ok quality. We transferred the best two and the other two were kept in the lab to continue to develop. Unfortunately we got the call that both didn't make it to freeze. You never know with numbers. Remember it only takes 1!!!

@Jaqcap17 I'm still holding on 10dp5dfet. My Beta is on Monday and I still haven't POAS, I'm just waiting until Monday to find out. I held out this long I can wait 3  more days.
