1st Trimester

Me and my wife's first..... Newb questions.

Hi all

My wife has had her first positive pregnancy and it works out we're prego :). We tried two normal cheap ones with the line and then two clear blue digital ones later in the day that all come back positive saying 3-4 weeks :).

Is she 3-4 weeks or do you have to add 2 weeks.... She was supposed to have her period 2 weeks ago.

Is there any chance that this can go wrong? Even after 4 tests? I'm so excited just dreading something going wrong :(

This is our first so I'm completely new lol.... She's going to ring doctors to see a GP tomorrow morning is this the right thing to do?

Any help on what we should be doing would be very thankful for.

Thanks

  • You would calculate her due date based on the first day of her last menstrual period.

this. also, if she has 4 positive tests, i would say there's a pretty good chance she's pregnant. & yes, calling your doctor is the right thing to do. congratulations!
  • Read the directions for the CB digital.  It reads weeks past O, not really weeks pregnant.  The tests also just say 2-3 weeks, or 3+ (not 3-4 weeks).  So if that test said 3 weeks, she would actually be about 5 weeks.

  • Yes, I'd call the doctor to schedule blood work :-)

My doctor actually told me that as long as I had a positive home test, that was good enough for them! I chose to have blood work done, too, though, just so I was really, really sure :-)

  • First, congrats! As pp mentioned, your doc will mostly likely date your pregnancy based on her last menstrual period. I guess you can call a gp but I'd advise she see her ob/gyn or a midwife preferably, whatever her preference is. Not sure what you mean by asking if something can go wrong. Can she be getting false positives, not likely. Can she still lose the pregnancy? I hate to be the one to give you bad news but no amount of positive tests will guarantee a viable/successful pregnancy. Something can go wrong at any point. Fortunately, the longer into her pregnancy the better her odds are of not having a miscarriage. Happy and healthy pregnancy to you both!

  • There's no need to call a GP. Call the OB to get scheduled for a first appointment. There's no need for bloodwork as a home pregnancy test is reliable. My own OB gives a cheap urine test to confirm pregnancy just like at home.

    This.

Also OP, yes, there is a chance something can go wrong but all you can do is hope for the best. Congratulations!

  • Calculated based on LMP, its what the doctor will do. If shes 2 weeks late with a normal 28 day cycle, shes likely 6 or so weeks. There's a chance things could go wrong, especially early on, but there is nothing you can do at this point other than wait and see. The January 2016 birth month club (and a few others but theirs is the original I think) has a great thread called chances of not having an early miscarriage pinned to the top of their board. It breaks down chance of miscarriage by day gestation which can be really reassuring when you're just sitting around waiting.
