Baby just got out of hospital with RSV, symptoms returning 2nd night home.

6 month went into hospital with severe breathing problems Tuesday. He was air flighted to Atlanta thursday, and we have literally been home one night when the symptoms came back. He was going so much better, we were keeping up with suction and saline. He even started playing and laughing. About 4 hours ago, he started pulling slightly when he breathes. He has also turned away a bottle and is whiny. I am worried, but I understand that RSV comes in waves like a roller
coaster. I called the doctor on call and he said it was a mistake that the hospital didn't send me home with medicine, but he also said not to worry unless he continues to not eat and starts pulling harder. Has anyone had an experience like this? Should I be alarmed and get ready to go back to the hospital? Or should this tiny relapse be expected?

  • Any update on this?  My first had RSV at 7 months, and was in the hospital for 3 days.  They sent us home with a nebulizer and medicine, so I'm surprised that your hospital didn't do the same.
  • He's doing better. I took him up to the doctor and got his Albuterol for his nebulizer and he is doing much better. Tomorrow is his first day back to daycare in two weeks and I'm nervous. As of now everything is going good. He is down to a breathing treatment every 1-2 days. Feeling hopeful.

  • How is your little one doing? How did daycare go? We just got sent home from Doctor yesterday with nebulizer for my 7 month old son for RSV + bronchiolitis. We made it through the night barely. So scary.
  • It gets better dude. The first few days,I was counting down the minutes to give him his treatments, but by the end of the week, he was only needing one every two days. He pretty much slept on our chest for a wk. Day care went great. I gave them the machine if they needed it, and they used it maybe twice. Now, he is completely better, even after vaccinations. Hang in there. You have the machine, and as long as he's not pulling his breaths thru his ribs and flaring his nose it's working.
