Tmi/awkward conversation: vaginal delivery

Hi ladies,

Ftm here. I had a vaginal delivery with episiotomy. I can't even believe I'm talking about this, but is it normal for down there to look drastically different? I never spent much time examining before but I feel like it's redder and that I'm missing folds or something...am I crazy? Dr gave me the all clear at 6 w.

So ladies, how did your lady parts change after vaginal delivery, if they changed at all? Will it go back or is this the new normal?

Thanks!

  • I am pretty sure I look different down there. I have definitely spent more time examining down there post childbirth than I ever did before. I also FEEL very different down there. I had a perinial tear, and I have a thick scar. It makes me sad when I touch it. I'm kind of embarrassed and don't want my husband to look at it.

Mine looks/feels normal. I'm 12 weeks pp from a vaginal delivery with superficial tearing that required two stitches where labia/vagina meet. Scar tissue hurts a little but otherwise normal.

This is how I feel too. My husband has been so reassuring but between this, stretch marks on my breasts, my teeth shifting, and pp body, my self esteem is in the gutter!

  • I am 4 weeks pp and things look different. I feel the same with it looking more red, more exposed and folds missing. It's awful!!! Before I had a nice one, if I may say. Now it's just not something o would consider nice looking. (Not that I look at myself there regularly) I mentioned it to my midwife, but she did not reassure me that it will change back to normal with time, but I am hopeful that a few months down the line I am back to normal.
  • Ok I know this isn't the topic of the original post and unfortunately I don't have much to add since I had a c section.....but Oh my gosh my teeth shifted too! I thought I was crazy and that I was just imagining it! Good to know I'm not alone and not hallucinating!

You aren't crazy! I'm 6w pp and I actually went to the dentist. He said that it happens due to the hormones drastically dropping. I've always had some gum issues but they have been exacerbated by pregnancy and breastfeeding. I'll prob need gum surgery! The issue (for me) is that the gum isn't holding the teeth as tightly (or something to that effect).

Yes! I haven't been to the dentist since about 20 weeks pregnant, but when I went they told me I needed a skin graft because my gums were getting too low to hold my teeth tightly. Must be a common thing! And now I also have all these gaps in my teeth that I never used to have. I feel like I need braces but I don't want to get metal braces at age 29 :-( the struggle is real and I feel your pain girl!
