Babymoon?

Is anyone planning a babymoon? I am wanting to go on a babymoon/anniversary trip at the beginning of March but we are debating whether to stay local (driving distance in Texas) or go somewhere on the coast (somewhere in Florida or maybe Charleston, SC). I just wanted to see if anyone else was planning a babymoon or had any suggestions.

Re: Babymoon?

  • We are planning one! Not sure where yet. We've been wanting to go to Iceland, so that is at the top of our list. We like to take an international trip each year and plan to keep the tradition once Baby comes.

If we decide to stay stateside for whatever reason, we'd go to San Fran or NYC.

  • I am planning a trip to NYC (which I had planned anyways)
BUT I am really tempted to take a trip to Ireland as well but will have to check with the doc as to what the cut off date for that would be.

  • I'd love to take a babymoon for our anniversary in March before baby comes but I don't know if we'll be able to afford it.  I also don't have much time off of work so I probably won't be able to.

  • I definitely think this is an excellent idea. We took a few roadtrips while I was pregnant with #1 and they are very special memories for me, connecting with my husband one-on-one while the excitement for starting a family was building.

We're not bothering this time because travel with a not-quite-2-year-old is not relaxing :P and she's never spent the night more than an arm's length away from me so I don't think I'd be able to relax if we suddenly tried leaving her with relatives.
  • I wish I could have a babymoon, but DH will be deployed almost until baby is due. If his ship pulls in someplace cool I might fly out to meet him though.

  • Jeez you guys are pulling out all the stops! I'm in CA so I just want to go to Monterey or Tahoe for the weekend and call it a babymoon. Pretty sure that's all I can handle anyway! I already have to pee all the time, I can't imagine traveling far like this.
  • We want to! I have spring break at the end of March and we are hoping to drive to Florida again, but its 14 hours and I'm not sure how I'll be feeling at the time. If I decide it's too much, we were thinking Nashville... Although I would prefer to go to Nashville when I can drink :) I'm curious where you ladies are going! We're still on the prowl.

  • @Linsbins: Gah, I love Lake Tahoe! That's where DH and I honeymooned--such a beautiful place.

I'd like to take a roadtrip to the beach for a long weekend in the spring. That would be glorious.
  • I heard about a really cool spa outside of Austin and was watching on cyber Monday for it to go on sale since it is pretty pricey. No such luck so now I'm kind of out of ideas. I like the thought of being within driving distance but if this is a "last hoorah" I kind of want to go somewhere more exciting.
  • We have had a trip to the Bahamas planned for over a year and got lucky that it's this February. Very excited:)
  • We went to Florida when I was 5 months pregnant with DD. Best decision EVER! It was right in the middle of March and we are from Maine so it was nice just to get away from the cold.
  • I really want to take one and we were talking about doing february. I live in the mountains in colorado so I'll be sick of snow - I suggested San Diego to dh since he has a bunch of hotel points at some nice places there. But we my decide to forego the trip just to save pennies :-(
  • I really want to go to the mountains! But it won't be much of a "baby moon" since I want to take DS. We've yet to go on a family vacay just the tree of us.
I'm jealous of you ladies that live somewhat close to beautiful places!

  • We're (I) and planning on one as long as my savings for Mat leave add up by then.

I want to go to Hawaii in March. Or possibly Phoenix or Destin ... Somewhere sunny :)
  • We have never done one before, and this is baby #3 so probably won't. Although, we did talk about maybe driving to NYC and having MIL watch the kids while we go to a show. (I have to decide if I'm comfortable with her watching the kids though. It would be the first time ever, and let's just say I have reservations).

@Linsbins I used to live in SF and I used love Monterey so much. We used to love that drive down there. You have the Cali weather. That is the difference between you and I. I now live in Chicago so will spend most of my pregnancy cooped up in the cold so have to have options to get out. lol. I had my last baby in Cali and it was such baby friendly weather.

  • Last time we stayed at a local resort for the weekend (for my birthday) and we'll probably do that again! My cousin is getting married in Tennessee in May (I'll be 35 weeks) and I REALLY want to go! I'm planning on a RCS and I'm really not concerned about going into labor (was induced at 41 weeks last time) but I'll wait and see what my doctor says.

  • Ladies just be careful on plane rides past the 6th month. My husband is a pilot and the cabin pressure and changing altitude can induce preterm labor.

  • @Linsbins if you decide to go to Monterey you HAVE to drive down Big Sur. We did a road trip in an rv up Highway 1 and it was incredible.

  • DH and I are planning on Costa Rica the first week of March. I'll be 25 wks. A friend gave us four nights at a resort as a wedding present, we debated about splurging on flights, but in the end I decided I really wanted us to do something nice (we didn't have a big honeymoon due to saving for IVF). I feel like this is our chance to enjoy each other for a minute in the sun after an icky winter. Love hearing all the trip ideas!!

Where are you going in Costa Rica? We did some time at the volcano Arenal & at the beach in Tamarindo. I hear there are big differences between the popular beach areas.
  • We are going to Cancun and staying at Moon Palace in January. Last time we went to Aruba around 10 weeks (pre-planned) and El Conquistador at 28 weeks. We also did a trip to Charleston/Savannah at 32 weeks. I wasn't "working" from 28 weeks until 36 because I was studying for the bars and DH travels for work, so I could just tag along.

  • We were not planning on doing one because we want to save money and are currently saving for a house. But now you ladies have me wanting to do one, even if if is somewhat local.
  • @Bear14+ We are going to Reserva Conchal on the Pacific side. DH and j have gone separately before but not together and I've only been to the Caribbean side. Ive never been to a resort, so it'll be a different. Kind of experience for sure!
  • We decided to book a hotel today (can cancel) in the Fort Walton/Destin area. We went there last year and it was beautiful! We also want to spend a day in Birmingham. I love museums and anything to do with history so I'm pretty excited :)

  • We had a trip planned to Puerto Vallarta before I got pregnant, so while we didn't take a baby moon with our first, I guess this will turn into one. I'm a little nervous about traveling to Mexico pregnant (the food and/or water got me so sick last time we went to Cancun and I wasn't pregnant), but we're staying at Iberostar and I've heard it's a terrific resort where we shouldn't have to doubt and food or water, including the bathroom sinks and ice. Any advice is welcome!!

We are only able to travel so much because my husband works in the travel industry and gets a lot of perks. It's a nice trade off for him being away from home a lot.

It never hurts to check in with a travel agent and see what kind of a getaway you can get. They get really great discounts and booking through them is often cheaper than what you can find on your own. They book domestic trips as well, so you can have a more affordable local getaway. We ended up going with a travel agent for our honeymoon even though DH loathes them, and got a great deal. The airfare was even cheaper than what we could find on our own.
  • @chelseay416 depending on where you're located, southwest usually has some decent flights out here to San Diego :) plus if you come in the "off season" hotels are cheaper. I grew up here and love it!

I WANT to take a weekend trip to Tahoe or Mammoth, because I've never been to either, even though I've lived in SoCal my entire life. Unfortunately DH is being a party pooper and doesn't want to go. Lol.

  • We will probably go somewhere nearby like Oman or Dubai but we d have to take DS with us so not much of a babymoon!
  • We're going to Maui for a week in the beginning of March- just secured our flights and hotel, etc. last week (OB ok'd it without any hesitation). I cannot wait! Warm sun and virgin cocktails with little umbrellas, YESSS!

@HBamama2B Conchal is gorgeous! If you get the chance to explore, I also recommend Playa Grande - huge, secluded and beautiful. My grandfather lived in Costa Rica for 30 years, so I have been a few times. Have a great time!

With my DD, my husband and I went to St. Martin when I was 25 weeks. It was perfect, and just what we needed to relax and prepare for the big change coming in our life. I doubt we do a babymoon this time, just because toddlers make traveling hard! Haha!
  • @scotten thanks for the tip!!

Did you like the island? I lived on the Dutch side for a few years!
  • MY BF and I both teach high school so we will do something during spring break. But she what yet but it won't be a huge trip.

Same for us! We HAVE to move in the spring because our house is only 2 br and we need at least 3 with this 3rd child coming in June. I'm thinking maybe a weekend getaway to a cabin or something would be fun, at least.

  • DH and I leave for a cruise from Florida to the Bahamas for 4 nights in 6 hours!

It was originally our anniversary gift to each other (I paid for cruise, he paid for flights) but is now a babymoon also :D
  • @Bear14+ LOVE the island. My husband and I have been three times since 2012. Someday we just might move to the Dutch side. ;)
  • We did a cruise for the last one.  We called it a Babymoon and technically it was, but we go on a cruise every May (our anniversary).  So, it was already happening anyway.  This year, because I'm due in May, we had to move the cruise to before I'm 24 weeks and we are going in January.  Babymoon!

  • We may do a quick getaway for a few days.  H's birthday is at the end of March (he's turning 40 so its a big one!) and its our anniversary too...we got married the day after his birthday.  We loved the last trip we did to Ixtapa, Mexico.  The resorts there are beautiful and often built into the cliff-side overlooking the Pacific Ocean.  I haven't booked anything yet though because I'm currently sick of traveling.  We just got back from India to do some work there for H's business and visit family and I just returned yesterday from a work conference in Arizona...hopefully no more flying for a while.
