In The Trenches

To all the mamas dealing with colic, whose stomachs start to drop as you watch the clock because you KNOW it's about to get real for the next few hours, for the mamas who have to mentally prepare to pull out all the stops to try to soothe your babes through it, and for when you just don't have the energy to deal with it after you know, momming it up all day...just know you're not alone. Currently rocking my swaddled DD2 with the white noise blasting, holding my breath and sipping my wine because she's taking a break from the wailing, and I want to savor the peace and quiet while I can!

I don't know how old your Lo is but it does get better! Thankfully my babe only lasted a with colicky tendencys for 4 weeks but let me tell you when you get those "quite, calm" moments nothing feels better. We find sitting in the shower with the water beating down calmed him a little bit. We still have some really rough days but those days wouldn't be traded for the world
Eta: stay calm, enjoy that wine & eat up these good times as the bad are only a moment. You're doing a great job
  • I feel so much better knowing I'm not the only who has a little wine in between those crazy evening hours ! It helps to calm nerves a little LOL.
My baby was worse from 2-6 weeks. She's 9 weeks today and still has her moments in the evening and can be still hard to put to sleep at night so it does get better although you still have those moments...

She's 5 weeks, started around 3 weeks. I'm hoping it ends soon-ish! She loves the sound of water running and the vacuum. I've found that doing anything to distract her helps with the crying so sometimes we walk around the house. It sucks because by nighttime I'm so done with walking lol. It's also extra stressful because my two year olds bedtime and routine has gone out the window because of it all. My husband usually takes hold of our toddler while I'm with the babe. Somehow he thinks I'm better able to calm her down than him when in reality she's going to cry the five hours no matter who or what. I'm just doing my best to get more "breaks" during her colicky time. We'll make it through! This will all pass :)
  • This too shall pass .... :)
  • The first night my husband went back to work my LO cried all night. I walked around our house for an hour and a half listening to You Are My Sunshine on repeat. I've been having anxiety attacks every night he goes to work since. The doctor put me on Zoloft to help. Im hoping it's just the 6 week growth spurt and she will be back to my easy happy baby soon.
  • I was up last night from until 5am with my 8 week old.  I was hoping this would have passed by now.  The best thing that calms her for me is bouncing on an exercise ball.  She likes being vertical (maybe it helps her feel better) and will fall asleep on me like that.  Unfortunately once I put her down on her back, she sleeps about 10 minutes then starts screaming again.  I like to tell myself that at least the bouncing on the ball for hours with her should help me lose the baby weight...gotta stay positive right?

That sounds like reflux. The being vertical thing. Good luck mamas!
