Severe dizziness and faint feeling.

So today I am feeling pretty crappy. Aside from my back and hip aches I have been very dizzy all morning to the point I lose balance and feel very strange. Idk the best way to describe it other than feeling awful and super dizzy which is giving me a headache. A co worker even said I don't look like I feel good. I called my OB and the nurse said to double my fluid intake. I thought I was doing well with fluids? Has this happened to anyone? Should I be worried? My mom was very anemic while pregnant with me and I've only had my blood drawn once with this pregnancy. Any insight would be helpful. I just want to feel better and keep baby safe. Please help.

Re: Severe dizziness and faint feeling.

  • It has happened to me...drink more water and rest, that's what helped me feel better.

  • This happened to me last week at work.  I felt really dizzy, and got sweaty and shaky.  I called my doctor and the nurse told me the same thing.  She said I should be drinking a gallon of water a day.

For now, do you have something sugary you could drink?  Juice, sprite, gatorade, something like that?  I drank gatorade and ate almonds and felt better.

Since then, I got a 32 ounce water bottle and set a goal to drink 3 bottles a day.  I also make sure to snack during the day so my blood sugar doesn't drop.  If it happens again, call your doctor but try not to worry.  Feel better!!

  • @AnastasiaBeaverhausen09 thank you.. the crazy thing is I had a bagel with cream cheese and a Gatorade when I got to work. Since then I've been sipping a caffeine free Pepsi and water and snacked on some almonds. So it's not like I didn't eat or drink this morning which is why it was so odd to me. When I go to lunch in a few minutes I'm getting more water and I'll try finishing that and hope it helps. As of now I have a bad headache and can't even look up from my phone without getting dizzy. It is very unpleasant especially because I have to keep getting up at work. Glad to hear others have felt this also. Just want it to go away ASAP.
  • @kp90 Yeah, I had had breakfast and water the morning it happened to me too.  My nurse said we need so much more water than we think we need.  Even if we think we are drinking enough, we probably need more.  She also said that while it could be dehydration or a drop in blood sugar, sometimes the baby is putting pressure on certain nerves and vessels and even that can cause dizziness.  Can you leave work early today?

  • @AnastasiaBeaverhausen09 highly doubt it but if I don't start feeling better then I'll talk to my boss. Just finished lunch and have two bottles of water so hoping this helps.
  • My Doula told me if I feel dizzy or am having headaches, that I should increase fluid intake and also increase my protein intake.
  • So much of random feeling like crap during pregnancy can be solved with: more water, protein, and rest. It seems odd when you are feeling so crudy that the solution can be so simple.

  • Even if you think you are drinking enough, you're not!! Learned that the hard way with DD. Hope you feel better
  • I get vertigo often throughout pregnancy. Water and salty foods help me. And sometimes I'll get super dizzy if my blood pressure goes way low.
  • Same thing happened to my sister. Her dr told her to drink he body weight in water.

I've been drinking my body weight (and it's definitely a lot of water) but I haven't felt dizzy, drained, and I don't get headaches anymore.
  • Like all the PP's I've felt very faint at times usually from dehydration or low blood sugar. Even if you think you've had enough to drink, drink more water and it will usually go away. Invest in a refillable water bottle and see how many times you fill it up each day. We sometimes think we get enough but don't.
It holds 32 oz so it's recommended you would drink 3 of these a day during pregnancy
  • Thanks ladies. I left work early because I still wasn't feeling good after lunch and still not but am sipping on water since I've been home and ate some more. I will double my fluid intake over the next few days and hopefully that solves it. I just get worried about being dizzy and falling or something that may harm the baby and also that my mom was so anemic while pregnant just want to make sure all is ok. I worry too much!
  • @kp90 You are fine and your baby is fine also.  Even if you do fall, baby is well cushioned in there.  Get lots of rest, tomorrow is a new day and I'm sure you will wake up feeling refreshed and better!

  • Stop sipping water and drink it! lol. ;) The first few times it happened with my last pg, my doc said to get a bottle of water into me within an hour of feeling like that and then slow down to a (16 oz) bottle of water every 2 hours hours or so.

Lol. I'm trying! Feel like I'm going to float away. Thanks for the insight ladies. I'm sure tomorrow I will be feeling better.
  • I also feel like I am floating. Is awful. Like I just want to hold on to my head in fear of it flying away.

So weird. But yes, water helps.
  • Happened to me too, except I had gotten to the point where I actually fell over from my dizzy spell! I went to the doc that day and after running every test possible, the conclusion was (again) drink more water, eat more sodium, eat frequently, and rest. She actually demanded I take the next two days off, just to rest. I try to chug a glass of water once an hour (I HATE IT), but I haven't had any incidents since. Hope you're feeling better!
  • Thanks @bkjade I was hoping id feel better this morning but it's actually worse. I'm not sure if I should call my doctor again or try to wait it out til Monday.
