Job security.. (Bit of a vent session)

So the company I work for is based out of Spain who is now bankrupt. Naturally nobody "knows"'anything so none of us know what is going on. Currently they are in a shut down which means they are still working and getting paid but aren't producing ethanol. There have been potential buyers come in, but like I said nobody is talking of what is happening. I hear from local farmers that think they know more than from the plant itself. So, a buy out would be great for many reasons but I fear they will cut pay or maybe clean house and start with new people. I am planning to ride out the storm and see what happens but so afraid I will lose my job or take such a pay cut that we will struggle financially. My back up plan if I lose my job is to collect unemployment for a while and maybe go back to school for surgical tech. I would be able to stay home with LO as I could do most online. I feel bad about taking unemployment but would rather do that and further my education than take a significant pay cut. Either scenario, I'm stressed out about our future. While the hours I work are less than glamorous and I don't like the current company, i make good money, don't have to drive far, I like my direct boss and most of the people I work with. Any drastic change has me freaked out and I'm not sure how to handle it. I can't control what happens but I can't help but feel anxious. Sorry for the long post.

  • Yikes! Good luck. That would stress me out too. I hope it all works out for you!
  • Try not to stress yourself out about this issue...you already have enough to worry about with a new baby!  I truly believe things happen for a reason.  When I had my daughter 3 years ago, I gave birth on a Sunday and 2 days later my husband was laid off from his job and I was out on maternity leave with only partial pay.  It was a stressful 2 months financially, but on the positive side he was home to help me with our first child, which turned out to be priceless (I know that now that I have our son who is 8 weeks old and had to handle it on my own while he worked).  He found a new job after 2 months right as I was going back to work and it ended up being a better job than he had before.  Good luck!
