I want to start working out again now that I've been cleared by my Dr. The only trouble is I work 8 or more hours a day. And I don't want to have to go to the gym after work and spend even more time away from LO. Right now it's cold out but I feel okay about bundling LO up and going for walks with the stroller. When I get taxes back I plan on getting a treadmill. And I'm contemplating getting a membership to the family Y even though leaving her in the day care there while I work out makes me nervous. I was just wondering what all you other working mama's are doing as far as exercising goes to get some ideas for what to do in the meantime.
Re: Working mama's exercise
I've been back to work for about three weeks now. It's not easy, but I fit it in, because it makes me feel better and more like my old self. I wake up at 4 am and run 5-6 days a week (on the treadmill in my basement) before starting work at 6 AM. I also joined a gym 5 minutes from my workplace and do 20 minutes of high intensity strength training in 4-5 days a week over my lunch break.
Not every day goes perfectly, and sometimes my newborn (or my 1 or 2 year old) needs my attention at 4 AM and I have to skip the run. Other days, I have a work commitment that prevents me from going at lunch. But I just try to get it in MOST of the time and it makes a huge difference in how I feel.
I understand how hard it is to exercise when you're a working mama, but I find the benefits far outweigh the cost. :-)
