Trouble TTC

Can anyone relate?

OK me and my husband is TTC and we have been trying for over a year. I went to my OB and they have always told me(since I was 13) that my periods were always irregular because I was too skinny. So I then seen another doctor once we started TTC and he performed an ultrasound and found out I had PCOS. He immediately started me on Metformin and Clomid and Progesterone. I am taking metformin twice a day 500mg. Then I started the progesterone to get my periods regulated, then day 5-9 of my menstrual I would take clomid. I have been on all the meds since July. My husband also went and got tested and they said his sperm motility is low (33%). We keep getting bad news after bad news and I’m trying to see if anyone else is having similar problems. I feel like I’m just running into circles and since I have started this medicine I have also had two cyst rupture as well, two different monthsL My husband was referred to a urologist to get another exam done but he is a truck driver and with him being gone he has not yet made it for the second exam. I have to go back to my OB to get blood work done tomorrow to see if I am O. Everyone around me is getting pregnant all my best friend have kids or expecting. Both my sisters never had any issues having kids etc. I am just devastated at this point and my husband is trying his best to comfort me as much as he can. He keeps saying it will happen when it is supposed to happen but that is the last thing I want to hear at this point!!!Please let me know if you can relate and your input on the situation.

Thanks in advance!

  • Hi! I am not sure if you are seeing a RE (reproductive endocrinologist) but it is highly recommended you take clomid under the care of a specialist that can properly monitor you. There is a maximum number of times (6) you can take clomid in you life, so you want to make sure it is done properly. I am sorry you have to be here and I wish you luck in your journey.

  • thank you so much!  After this blood work is done tomorrow that is my next step.i am also going to ask my doctor about being on the clomid for so long.
  • Hi there! I can definitely relate to your frustration :( DH and I have been trying for a year now with no luck. I have a very irregular and long cycle as well. We started testing and we just got the SA back saying that DH has low motility and morphology (and my CD 25 blood work indicated I hadn't ovulated yet this cycle). He has an appt. for the urologist on the 21st. I'm feeling very disheartened. I don't really have advice as i'm new to this whole process but I just wanted to let you know that you're not alone and i'm on here if you need to talk <3

Fx for you, hoping it all works out for both of us!

  • I'm so sorry that you're having trouble conceiving!  A lot of us can relate to what you are saying.  I'll also 2nd going to an RE for proper monitoring, because one of the major side effects of Clomid is thinning of the uterine lining.  Without at least a 6mm measurement implantation is impossible even if your egg fertilizes.   You want to be able have the option to use Clomid again with more procedures, like IUI, etc with your RE.   Also, you will be monitored for cysts and they can intervene before getting those painful ruptures.

    2 Clomid IUI's + 4 injectable IUI's= 5 BFNs and 1 mc

  • Yea your going through the exact same thing. I hope the blood work shows some kind of results for O. We have got so much bad news so im not expecting good news. Are you on the same meds as well? I hope you get some answers as well. i haven't figured out to navigate threw the website to good yet or even how to look up where i have a notification, but im managing haha.
  • I don't have all of the same issues as you, but I do have multiple infertility issues that have piled up, I understand how frustrating it can be, some days I wish they would just find something wrong that says 100% you can't have kids, then I could find a way to move on to a different way. But when no one thing is an out, but all combined, no one really knows it creates so many what-it's. So yeah, I get it. Hang in there!
  • I too am a skinny PCOS sufferer. Due to my weight, metformin wasn't recommended as it's usually given for type 2 diabetes sufferers or those at risk of it. Which is puzzling as to why they've put you on it.
We're just reaching the 2yr TTC mark & thankfully have had proper monitoring on clomid, as like you, I have crazy long cycles. Got another two cycles to try before they move us into something else (I'm in the UK, so slightly different over here).
If you're feeling unsure about anything, make a list of questions for your next appointment and make sure you know what you're taking and why, otherwise you'll feel out of your depth before you've begun.
Message me if you want to chat. X
  • @SmileyMcGee I'm curious as to what they do differently in the UK. Are you willing to share with us?

  • @clt2pwm11 as we have the nhs, referrals aren't done until 2+ yrs of TTC, unless over 35. I've had cafe under my GP until then (local surgery) until a referral to the nearest specialist hospital came through (40minute drive to that city as town hospital has no funding for infertility).
Care under the city hospital is mostly done by nurses who take care of your treatment & run anything else past the professor if needed.
The main difference is that it's free, therefore you have less say in what actually happens as its all paid for (IVF is a way off for us yet, but that's a postcode lottery. Which means depending where you live depends whether it's funded or not!)

    Hope that helps! X
  • I meant *care not cafe! Darn autocorrect!!
  • @SmileyMcGee thanks for sharing! I'm always interested in how the rest of the world deals with different health issues.

  • Just got blood results back and I'm finally ovulating on the Clomid. I did have to drop my dose on the Metformin down to one tablet at night instead of two twice daily. My OB is wanting to keep trying this for four more months and if i do not become pregnant to make another appointment with him. I have been on the Met since June and the clomid i have only taken  two months of the clomid when my period has been regular. Hopefully this is good news because before i was never ovulating at all. Do any of yall have any recommendations for the DH to take as far as vitamins etc. I seen some stuff online that supposedly made the motility levels higher but i called my OB and he said it was a money scam.
  • @alishaboone12 so glad to hear it! That is great news! Hoping you get your BFP soon!! As for the supplements for motility, my DH isn't on any yet as we are waiting for his urology appt., but one lady on here suggested to me Fertile Blend which you can get on amazon, and a general multi-vitamin (one suggestion was for Rainbow-Light). I also got some infertility books out of the library yesterday and they suggest these as important for sperm health: Zinc (11mg/day), Selenium (55mcg/day), Vitamin E (15-22 mg/day), Vitamin C (90 mg/day), Folate/Folic Acid (400-800 mcg/day). You can find a list of foods with these nutrients online. Good luck!

  • Hey there, and welcome! I'm also im the PCOS boat, we've been trying for about 20 months. DH sperm is good, but low volume, just on the cusp of a normal amount. I know it sounds silly, but I just got Instead Softcups to help keep his stuff near my cervix as we are not doing IUI yet.
I'm also on Metformin, and like you, I've gone down to the lowest dose (it totally upsets my stomach).
One thing I wanted to say, I read in a scholarly article that clomid doesn't work as well on people with PCOS. You should ask your doctor about Letrozole, it's the same idea, but more effective with patients with PCOS and less likely to thin your uterine lining.

And one more thing... Yes, it does feel like everyone around me is pregnant or has a newborn. The hardest part for me is that most of them have been 'accidents'

    TTC since January 2015.
No period since going off the pill at that time.
Still playing the waiting, homeopathic game but starting to consider other options and maybe if a "diagnosis" is in order.
