Freaking out!

I had really bad cramping last night, but no bleeding or spotting, and this morning my morning sickness has decreased significantly. I did IVF and stopped my Progesterone Sunday and Estrace on Monday. I'm not sure if that's why my symptoms have decreased or if I should be concerned. I think the cramps last night were caused by a dream (I think I orgasm-ed from the dream) and I've had really bad cramps like that a couple weeks ago from an orgasm. I guess I have 2 questions......has anyone else's MS symptoms decreased after stopping Progesterone and Estradiol and has anyone else had severe cramps from an orgasm?  This is my first pregnancy so everything is freaking me out, but going from HORRIBLE MS to almost non-existent MS is scaring me.  I'm 10+1 weeks today.

Re: Freaking out!

  • I have had severe cramps from an orgasm, but only after my DS was born.   I wouldn't be surprised if it is pregnancy related.  Everything is shifting down there, so as muscles tense up, and organs are in new locations, I think this can be normal.  When is your next appointment?

  • Not until Dec. 29. My last one was last week....so I have 4 weeks to wait. I don't think I can wait that long. I was used to going and seeing my baby once a week with my RE, now that I'm with my OB it's every 4 weeks.

  • I completely feel you on the horrible 4 week wait to get into the doctor's office and make sure everything is okay.  It's so much worse than the 2WW when you are TTC.

I was having horrible cramps last week (and the week before had some bleeding that turned out to be my placenta sitting on my cervix) so I called the dr and and she said that cramps were normal and I was fine.

I was able to conceive naturally so I didn't have to take any of the hormones- but since the increase in hormones is what is causing MS, mood swings, large painful breast and all of the other symptoms we are all so fond of- it makes sense to me that when you stop taking the hormones your body would decrease some of these symptoms.

I would call the dr and let them know.  They will probably tell you that you are fine- but sometimes just having the drs office tell you that is enough to calm the nerves.

Also before the baby decided my cervix was going to be it's new home I would also get really bad cramps after orgasm.  You are more sensitive down there- so you can have all kinds of different orgasm experiences (Like orgasming from a dream- I wouldn't mind sleeping all the time if that was a regular occurrence).

  • I had cramps and bleeding from an orgasm in my first pregnancy, and it freaked me out too! Everything was fine.

If it's at all reassuring, I also woke up this morning with my MS gone. I freaked out and called my SFIL, who is an OB, and he talked me down a little bit (HCG production starts to drop off, it's normal, symptoms can go away suddenly, there's a low risk of MMC after seeing a heartbeat, etc.). He did tell me I could call my OB if I really thought it would make me feel better, but I haven't -- talking it over with him made me feel at least a little bit more calm. I'm with you, though -- it's incredibly nerve-wracking. Now I'm sitting at work trying to interpret every tiny symptom. Was that a cramp? Was that a tiny wave of nausea? Until the baby is big enough that you can feel it move consistently, it's agonizing not to have immediate reassurance that everything's all right.

  • It's common for symptoms to get better after stopping progesterone. I'm weaning off mine (iui) and I think it's helping a little.

It is hard after so many RE appts to go less often now!
DS 9/2/13 was a BFP from an IUI!
Triplets due 6/29/16 also from an IUI!

  • Reaching orgasm from a dream?  How do I sign up for that symptom?

Also, yes - as the pregnancy progresses you can certainly have cramping after an orgasm, but it shouldn't last too long.  I had a minute or two of cramping after my last escapade with the DH.  It hadn't happened earlier on so I expect this will be a new pregnancy side effect.  Not bad enough to forgo sex however!

  • Try an elective us they are a bit pricy but they will put your mind at ease.
  • Thank you everyone for the responses! It really meant a lot and helped. I couldn't control my horrible anxiety so I called my OB office this morning and they took me in right away. I can happily say that baby was moving and grooving and waving to us on the US. I couldn't stop bawling my eyes out with tears of relief and joy. I was so freaked out. Now I'm just happy that my MS has gone....hopefully for good. Thank you all again so much!!!

  • KTLehan- okay- that's good!  My MS stopped at 10w1d too and I still can't control my anxiety about it (been 3 days).  That coupled with back ache has me terrified, and- as a result- seemingly incapable of doing anything except stalking this group!

  • Thrilled for you, @KTLehan! I woke up this morning with a new wave of MS and none of my pants fit (seriously, overnight), so I am feeling reassured as well.
