Weird adrenaline/heart feelings, anyone else?

Just checking that these symptoms at 13 weeks are fairly common or anyone else has experienced them? I spoke to my midwife and all my blood levels are normal. I'm starting to feel less tired and a little less nauseas. But for the past few days I've had this jittery/nervous/adrenaline rush type feeling in my chest and stomach. I'm not sure what it is. I've had quite a fast heart rate and a few palpitations too. And headaches for the past week. Just feeling a bit anxious but more physically than mentally. I have a Dr's appointment today around 3 but I guess I just wanted some pregnant folk to help put my mind at ease :)

Re: Weird adrenaline/heart feelings, anyone else?

  • Headaches are totally normal in this stage! And the heart stuff is normal too. We have about 30% more blood volume right now and our poor hearts have to work harder!

  • I get like that but it's because I'm not on anxiety meds right now. My dr has me take a bynadryl when I feel that way. It helps.
  • Yes, heart palpitations are common. I had them for a few days when I was around 9 weeks. I mainly felt them at night in bed when relaxing. It feels very strange and unsettling. They have stopped now!
  • I get them as well. Mostly when laying down or waking up.
  • I get them too. I already have a high resting heart rate. So with my first they actually did a lot of tests including a CT, worried that I was throwing clots. Then saw a cardiologist who is lucky I didn't kick him in the nuts. Told me I should get up & do more housework & that would help. (I had SPD & was told to limit asymmetrical movements like stairs, sweeping, etc...). Now I just know it's my normal & try & ignore it

  • I get this too.  I was Googling it a few days ago actually to see if it was normal.  ;)  I have a very slight heart murmur but a few days ago it was more pronounced and I had some mild chest pain for a few hours (not shooting pain, just a dull throb).  Make sure you are drinking plenty of fluids.  I notice when I'm dehydrated (even when I don't feel like I am) the heart stuff is more pronounced.
  • I get the heart race/adrenaline feelings too, had them throughout my last pregnancy as well and everything was just fine. I chalk it up to more blood along with hormones
  • Yes I got heart palpitations last pregnancy, I think it was closer to 20 weeks. They are supposedly normal in pregnancy, but they had me go to a cardiologist and said if I get them again they will send me again.

  • I get this too. It's kind of scary. Our hearts are working a little harder to pump all that extra blood around. My DH and I made love the other day and he stopped and said "I can feel your heartbeat" then got a panicked look on his face and said "or is that the baby's heartbeat?". I assured him it was mine and it's been going a little crazy lately.

It's so weird to feel my own heartbeat in my abdomen, I've never experienced anything like this.
  • @CopperLane I know this isn't a sex thread, but my heart races way more than normal after intercourse too.

  • @itsStackie I worry about it. There's all this stuff that out there telling us to try not to get out of breath or let our heart rate get too high. Just taking laundry up and down the stairs puts me out of breath.
  • Mine do it after I eat even laying down I guess it's just a way of showing our bodies are working....
  • Thanks for all your replies guys! It's good to not feel so alone. I went to the dr and he told me my pulse was 102 bpm but I had just walked to the surgury fairly recently. When I got home and relaxed I checked it myself and it was 80bpm. So I don't think I'm going to take the beta blockers he perscribed me. I've looked online and there is a huge amount of stuff saying its bad during pregnancy. I have gotten skipped beats in the past due to anxiety and my thyroid. So he said it might be my thyroid levels going out of whack again, he checked my blood for that too. I feel slightly better when I don't focus on it and worry about it so I do wonder if it is an anxiety thing. I hate anxiety!! :/ it's really hard not to worry about everything! And yeah I totally get high pulse and out of breath from everything I do too.
  • I am glad I read this because I have too. Thus started at like week 12 for mw and has only gotten worse. My heart races and almost hurts and I get very winded and need to squat down and catch my breath. I did read starting soon as your uterus is growing you will start having symptoms of difficulty breathing as it pushes on other organs. I have an appointment in two weeks or so weeks and plan to bring this up then.
