Cold vs Warm humidifier?

I keep reading various articles that say one is better then the other? which did you get and why?

I got a cold mist. I heard warm mists create more bacteria.

I got the crane cool mist because it doesn't heat up a room and cool is supposed to work better

I got a cold mist one because that is what I use for myself. I have lung issues and use it every night myself. We bought a cute elephant shaped one for his room.

We got a cool mist humidifier for the whole house. We put it in the hall between all the bedrooms and it has helped a lot. We got one that would work for the whole house so we didn't have to put them in multiple rooms.
