First Retrieval Tomorrow

Hi Everyone,
My first egg retrieval is tomorrow.  I'm a little nervous. Any tips or things I should know to expect?

    Good luck!!

Plan on resting the rest of the day.  Mine felt like I had done 1,000 crunches, so laughing/coughing/sneezing was a little uncomfortable, but I rested and felt good the next day!!

I just had my first retrieval yesterday.  Definitely take it easy that day, and I'd recommend the next day too just in case.  I'm home today as well taking it easy, but it was because I have a slight case of OHSS.  Drink gatorade or SmartWater and have some soups or lighter foods to eat during the day.  The nurses also said to try to stay away from greasy or sugary foods that first day, too.  Good luck!

Thank you!!! I'm home now and resting. Definitely more uncomfortable then I thought it would be, but we got 19 follicles so I feel blessed.

Woah! 19 follicles... congrats @Jaqcap17 . When do you find out how many fertilized?

11 Fertilize out of 19 is a good number. Are you doing a 3 day or 5 day transfer?

Thanks! We're doing a freeze all, so theyre growing for 5 days then will all be frozen.  After my natural period I will be ready to do a transfer.
  • Options
@piperella how are you feeling? I'm still very uncomfortable. You think that's normal?
  • Options
Hi @Jaqcap17!  I'm hanging in there.  I went back to work for a full day on Tuesday and my body was not ready.  I have been sleeping on and off since.  I did a half day today at work.  I'm struggling to get food in me as I just feel nauseous all the time.  Soup is a saving grace!  Sorry you are feeling uncomfortable.  I think it's normal if you think it is a shock to the body and it is surgery that requires a light anesthesia.  Hopefully we will feel better over the next few days (and any symptoms should go away quicker since we both are doing a freeze all).

Is your RE going to try to get a FET done for you in December or are they thinking January?  I'm hoping my period comes sooner than later so it may be possible to do a FET around Dec. 20th or 21st.

@piperella We'd love for it to be December too, but it just depends on my period.  Are you on an antibiotic...I think that's killing my appetite....although I must say that since starting these meds for stimulation my taste buds have completely changed.  Things I normally love make me want to throw up.  I'm excited we're both doing a freeze all and we're sort of on the same schedule!
