Disturbing - some bloody nipple discharge?

Reaching out to doc but I have one duct it appears that is secreting bloody discharge. I assume its colostrum mixed with blood. On a scale of 1-10 how concerned would you be? I'm reading about something called "rusty pipes" or other pages are mentioning cysts. Anyone else ever had this?

I do t have any knowledge of this, but the bump has a breast feeding board. Those ladies might know. I know you can have clogged ducts and mastitis before you deliver, but I'm not thinking the symptoms match what you have going on.

Thanks for the advice about the other board. There were a few older references to a similar issue - sounds like it generally clears up but dr. Will want to check everything I'm sure. Everything so far said still ok to BF but it makes me sick to my stomach just thinking of bleeding while nursing. Ugh. Hoping I can talk to them Monday.

Dr. Is concerned about this new development so she wants me to get a breast ultrasound before our next appointment. Now I'm more worried - I seriously hope this is nothing major.

I was told it might happen and not to be too concerned. If you are trying some hand expression it might help 'prime the pump' a bit and you might find the discharge clears up.

I've been priming a bit but not sure if I'm making it worse or better. At least it's not leaking out without help. I called three times today to schedule an appointment and keep getting voicemail. I'm starting to feel like labor might be imminent too - some aches, back pain, nausea, etc. we saw one mild contraction during my NST today. I was really hoping to get it checked out before he got here - guess we'll see. Thanks for the support - It does help

Definitely keep it up! My midwife said I should hand express whenever I thought about it (obviously if it was an appropriate situation!) and that the stimulation of the oxytocin could help labour along too.

They did the breast ultrasound and didn't see anything of note. Could be I just traumatized it somehow. They gave me the name of a specialist should I continue to have issues. We'll see what Dr. Says Friday. If expressing will help get this baby moving that'd be great. He's more than big enough at this point.

Blood coming from the nipple is a concern. I am so glad you have talked to your doctor. This is something that needs to be addressed and no you do not need to "prime your pump." It can be normal to have a little bit of blood in your breast milk due to cracks in the nipples etc but it should just be slightly pink and not red blood and is not usually seen until after delivery. I would leave your breasts alone until you discuss this with your doctor further. You should not try to stimulate labor without getting instructions from an actual medical professional. Please...there are risks involved.
