Success after IF

Transfer one or two?

Hi Ladies,
It has been awhile...actually over two years. We have MFI. I'm not sure where all my IVF signature details went. We transferred two 5 day blasts (BA quality) and have a perfect little 2 yr old. We have a FET scheduled for Jan. I only have 2 6 day blasts left (5bb & 6bb) and I'm torn about transferring both. The thought of twins was exciting before having a child and now it seems a little more scary. Since we transferred our best blasts the first time and only one stuck, I'm thinking about transferring two again. My RE said each blast has a 50/50 chance and I have a 25o/o chance of twins. WWYD? Thx in advance.

Re: Transfer one or two?

  • Hi there ! I wish I had advice for you but I'm starting IVF for the first time in early January ! Planning on doing a frozen transfer in March but I've been debating one or two as well ! I'm hopping on here to read any input anyone has ! I'm with you the thought of twins is terrifying at the moment .. But I almost want to transfer two in hopes that I will just get pregnant ! Best of luck to you !!

  • It is such a hard decision but if you are not 100% on board with twins then just transfer one. We transferred 2 during a fresh cycle - BFN. Then we transferred 2 frosties and I am currently almost 9weeks pregnant with one. I was okay with the risk of multiples mostly because this will most likely be my only pregnancy. All of the infertility issue were on my end so I'm not sure if that decreased my chance of having 2 beans stick or if would increase your chances since your dealing with MFI. Good luck to you @Gr8te!! @mskeenan I remember you and I am happy to hear you are doing IVF!!

  • We have twins from our first FET and if I could go back in time I would still have chosen to transfer both. We only have 1 snowflake left but if we had 2 I would take the chance of a second set and do it again. In no way am I saying it's easy, but it is not nearly as hard as it seemed. The one thing you learn is the importance of schedules :).

This! I have 13 month old twins... Twin Pregnancy was hard and scary. I was on bedrest for ten weeks but have amazing healthy kids. I would do it all over again. Hard but doable with support and a good schedule. I'm transferring one next time though :)

  • We also have MFI, and we also have one child already. When we did ivf last year my Dr was really pushing to transfer 2, but I was really not comfortable with the idea of twins. I transferred one, and I now have a healthy baby girl. I think its really a personal decision though. If we had not been successful, I'm sure I would have really second guessed our decision. If we decided to do a FET in the future, I will probably stick with one again even though they really push for 2 in a frozen cycle.

  • We have MFI as well. We transferred 2 day 3 embryos for our first fresh IVF cycle, and 1 stuck, giving us our oldest boy. For fresh IVF #2, we transferred did a 5dt of 2 blasts and ended up with b/g twins. We really wrestled with the decision, but we trusted the advice of our RE. Our oldest turned 2 a week before our twins were born and it has been a rough ride for the last few years. As PP said, if you are really not on board for twins, transferring 1 may be the way to go for you. My twin pregnancy was actually "healthier" than my singleton pregnancy, but I was terrified for months that I would end up on bed rest. I was very fortunate. Good luck with your decision. It's not one that I would like to have to make again.
