Partial bedrest aches and pains

Hi All! I was put on a "rest regime" on Monday. It's not 100% but I'm really doing my best to rest as much as possible, but yesterday and today I notice when I actually do things that my body hurts all over- typical pregnancy aches but my body really wasn't achy like this before. Is this typical? Is it just a coincidence? Will my body adjust because this isn't fun

Re: Partial bedrest aches and pains

  • Im on week 8 of bedrest and yes, your muscles when not used ache alot, then go atrophy and disappear. the first four weeks were the worst, my thighs shrank away due to muscles loss. Now at 8 weeks i have no lung capacity but my body has adjusted to being down all the time. i had a phys therapist come to my house for six weekly visits, she gave me little exercises to do which helped alot. I know we cant give medical advice etc, but think of the exercises that elderly do in the chair classes that they can do seated, things like rotating your ankles or lifting your arms up and down. no squats or sit ups or leg lifts obviously.

  • It gets uncomfortable. Do you have a pregnancy pillow? Heating pad?
  • Tomorrow marks 9 weeks since I got put on bed rest and I can tell you I definitely get the aching in the hips/pelvis/lower back. My suggestions are to change positions often, whether you think you need to or not. At least every couple hours, switch sides or put a pillow between your legs or switch from bed to couch, etc. A warm bath or some Tylenol is a good helper if it gets too bad! You/your body will adjust as you learn what works for you! Hang in there :)
