Diclegis VS DIY unisom/b6

As our MS is amping up, I'm seeing more posts about taking unisom/b6. I called my OB and she prescribed diclegis without much conversation, so now I'm wondering if I should try the unisom/b6 combo first? Is there a reason to do one over the other? Any experiences with either?

Re: Diclegis VS DIY unisom/b6

  • I used Diclegis with my last pregnancy and it definitely helped.  I think it is suppose to have the advantage of extended release???

I had tried b6 on it's own, but never made my own combo with unisom.

You can get an online coupon that will make your copay on $30:  https://www.diclegis.com/pdf/Diclegis_Savings_Offer.pdf

    Good Luck!

  • Thanks! Mine was thirty when I picked it up, so I already have it...as soon as I picked it up I began to feel good, better than I have in a few days...doesn't it figure?
  • Diclegis is essentially just a mix of Unisom and B6. If you can get it for cheaper via prescription, I'd go with that route.

I'm taking Diclegis now. My morning sickness has gone from 24/7 unmanageable to just a few mildly uncomfortable hours at night or when I'm really hungry. I'd definitely recommend it. I wish I had known about Diclegis during my first pregnancy.
  • I have been taking just one Diclectin (Canadian) a night and my morning sickness has improved 80%. Hard to tell if it's medication related or if my symptoms have just died down. I didn't take it for long last pregnancy either, and never reached the full dose, but i. definitely do notice improvement.
  • I tried the unisom/B6 with my last pregnancy. It worked perfectly. I tried it this time and it didn't work at all. My doc gave me Diclegis and I take one pill at night and my morning sickness is pretty much gone completely. It's a life saver.
  • I have lived on unisom/b6 during all my pregnancies and don't know what I would do without it. The only downside is of course the fatigue from the unisom, but it really helps at night because I have pregnancy insomnia.
  • The rx was $60 for me last pregnancy so I skipped and did the b6/unisom. Same thing.

  • I did the unisom/b6 combo for about a week before my Diclegis got approved. I second what @kja2011 said; the advantage to Diclegis is that it's slow-release and should help for longer. When I was doing unisom/b6, I was taking 25mg of each before bed. With Diclegis, I take 20mg of each before bed. They both seem to help equally. Diclegis was approved by my insurance and the copay is $30. It's actually about the same as it would cost me to buy separately.

@feenstas, Diclegis is very new in US! I think it was only approved here in the last 3-6 months. I don't know for sure, but I know that a friend who had her baby in August and has the same OB as me couldn't get it.
  • It is the same thing, just 1 pill versus two that you bought at the store.
    Thank God for Raid.

  • Thanks everyone! Day one on diclegis was better than I could have dreamed!!!! I only took half the dose and it did make me pretty sleepy, but it was manageable for sure. Nausea reduced by AT LEAST 75%!!!! So hopeful for now...
  • My insurance wouldn't cover Diclegis, so my midwife told me to take Unisom at night, and 25mg of B6 three times a day. That's not really helping much either, so I wouldn't think that Diclegis would have made a difference for me. I was on Zofran my entire first pregnancy, and it did help. Going for an appt on Dec. 10 so I'm going to ask what my other options are.
  • Thankfully my insurance covers most of the cost (c/p $40) as this diclegis is a lifesaver! It took a few weeks to get used to the sleepiness, but now I am only a bit more sleepy than usual and not throwing up 12-15 times a day. I am down to 2-3 times a day, and it is amazing!

I would absolutely try the unisom & b6 combo if Dicelgis is not covered.
  • While unisom knocks me off my feet I adore it because my worst ms is at night. Currently we ate till driving home several hours and im struggling so I just took so I can make it home and get some rest as I struggle to sleep due MS all night long so it definitely helps and I take b6 at night and in the morning. Since im closing in to the end of 1st tri 3 weeks and these are working we are holding off on prescription
