I've been drinking it for a couple weeks now, honestly I don't see a difference. But that's just me.

That's what I figure. My husband sees me getting frustrated with my lack of milk and is looking for home remedies and making me this tea (which in itself is a feat since I HATE tea)

My LC said you would have to drink a ton to actually see results. Mothers milk Special Blend increased my supply with my first. It gets expensive though b/c you need to take 4-6 pills per day.

This time I'm trying straight Fenugreek pills. We'll see how well it works in a few days.
  • For STM+... Do you really sterilize all the pump parts every day?? I just unpacked my pump today and the manual says to wash all parts that come into contact with breast milk after every use and sterilize every day by putting in boiling water for 10 minutes. That seems like a lot of work! Is there any way to sterilize without having to do the boiling water every single day??
  • @sardavbak medela sells sanitizing bags. You can get them at Wal-Mart. We put two ounces of water in there and put it in the microwave for two minutes. They're only good for 20 uses though.
  • I'm a FTM but I do know you can buy "quick clean" bags that sterilize in the microwave, they are made by
  • Medela but they are $6 for a 5 pack so it could get expensive if your trying to use them everyday
  • @Holdmomma I used fenugreek pills with my first after my doctor suggested them. It did increase my suppy fairly quickly but it gave my baby tummy troubles so I had to stop using it. Hope your lo does well with it!

  • Avent has a steam rack thing that works really well! My sister used it with her son and I'm now using it too. Wayyyy easier than boiling and it's durable and not disposable like the Medela bags. I have some of the microwave bags but I'll probably save those for when I'm out of the house.
  • I asked a girl I work with who is a "super pumper" (and makes way more milk than her baby drinks and donates it to the hospital) and she said she no longer sterilizes everyday - just does a good washing after each pump and occasionally puts the parts in the fridge if she can't wash right away, so not everybody sterilizes daily. They also make the wipes you can get if you don't have access to soap and water.
  • Not sure if this was mentioned earlier in the post, but two great resources that i hear being mentioned all the time by breastfeeding mammas are the following:

KellyMom - it's the go-to side for anything breastfeeding and moms swear by its resources: https://kellymom.com/category/bf/got-milk/

La Leche League website - https://www.lalecheleague.org/nb.html

I pump every two hours and I don't sterilize everyday. I use the microwave bags every other day, wash well between use then put in the freezer in a ziplock bag after drying. I take the parts out about 15 minutes before use. I also have three sets of tubing and shields so I am able to rotate. That much less work is a godsend when caring for a newborn who eats like a monster and pumping every 2 hours to build my stash.
  • Obviously everybody should do their own research, but I did some after talking to my friend and from what I saw sterilizing is more important for preemie babies and babies who have compromised immune systems. Healthy, full term babies don't necessarily need the parts sterilized daily. Of course the manual says to - that covers their behind legally and convinces you to buy their accessories.

But seriously, don't take my word for it, just do a little research. Certainly no harm/no foul if you choose to sterilize daily.
  • @LaceyH13 I have to agree, knowing a little about how hospitals autoclave for sterilization I just have hard time believing that you can really effectively sterilize much at home or that it is necessary for healthy babies, since as soon as you open the item it is no longer sterile. Also having worked in hospital kitchens and restaurants I know that most places sterilize dishes with a diluted chemical rinse (diluted bleach or a specific sanitizing product--with a measured concentration). Anyway, from my experience with "professional dishwashing" I lean towards hot soap and water and letting things COMPLETELY air dry as the most important thing. I think I am actually more concerned about the chemicals you are potentially releasing by boiling plastic since excessive heat is such a common catalyst for chemical reactions.
  • I have a preemie, I exclusively pump. I don't sterilize everyday. I have several sets of bottles/nipples so I rotate, and I sterilize with boiling water every couple days. I use the wipes during the night when I don't want to get out of bed.
  • How do you know if a baby is sensitive to your milk? My baby keeps getting what I think is gas, when I burp her I never get anything maybe a little burp if I'm lucky. I've given her gas drops maybe 2 hours ago she's up screaming again. She just pooped last time I gave her these.. I hear her belly rumbling every now and then. My boobs are hurting she needs to eat but won't. SOS

Your paediatrician can probably tell you if she if or not. However, there are things you can eat that gets passed to baby and gives them indigestion and upset belly. Maybe try a bland diet for a couple days and see how she does? Pizza gives my little man reflux and gas like no other. Is it possible she is taking in air when she eats?
  • Any other moms having issue with milk not coming in? We will be 3 days this eve and i don't have my milk yet.
  • @enigmaanjel it took me about 4 days to get my milk in, now dealing with engorgement. Fun times!!

Anyone else have a baby who only eats for 10 minutes every 3 hours on just one side? I'm concerned she's not eating as much as she should. And of course since she's only eating on one side every 3 hours, each breast only gets used every 6 hours. Starting to have engorgrment issues.

My second baby was like that. It ruined my supply :( I wish I had known to pump or manual express the milk to keep my supply up since the milk was there and so full! Pump and store! As long as she's gaining weight and having wet diapers she'll be fine but I would definitely pump to keep your supply up!

Thanks for the advice! This is my second - I nursed my DS for a year and he would happily eat from both sides most feedings. This one has made me feel like I all of the sudden have no idea what I'm doing. I wil pump the side that she doesn't eat from to keep the supply up!

That is exactly how I felt. My first was a feeding champ and my boobs could have fed an army! So the second left me very confused and helpless. I was much younger then and didn't know how drastically and quickly my supply could deplete. This is my third pregnancy and I am hoping I have another champion feeder to avoid that feeling again! Good luck!!
  • @enigmaanjel yes it took almost 5 days for my milk to come in. I was starting to worry. He lost almost a lb after 2 days so the peditrician had me supplement with formula after breast feeding him.

My struggle now is that he falls asleep so quickly after latching. Im lucky to keep him eating for more than 10 mins. Also in the process of him learning to latch he REALLY damaged the left nipple to a point where I can't give it to him anymore. I am pumping on that side in the mean time while it heals. How long should I give it? 3 days? FTM here and any/all advice welcomed.

Yeah she has lost about a pound and i started to supplement today. I feel tingly and fuller today but not quite like it is in yet. Hoping drs appt goes good friday and they don't force more formula. I know for every ounce she gets of formula is an ounce i won't produce. So i am pumping afte each feeding.
As for the nipple to heal...use lots of lanolin and see how it feels. It could take less time.
  • @angelicac06 You could try a nipple shield while it heals too they are $5-10, I think some people have said the lactation consultants have given them out too, you could call yours and see what they recommend for healing.
  • @enigmaanjel thanks I will look into that. Best wishes Friday. My son gained 7 oz in 5 days since supplementing so the dr. Just said to keep doing what I was doing and didn't push more.

@TomekiaB thanks! I had a shield bought for me but was skeptical to use it. Ill try it today!
  • Holy engorgement! !!!!! How are you ladies dealing? Miles couldn't latch last night so I pumped some on the low setting and then he was able to latch this morning. Thank god!!!

Also anyone have a hard lump in their armpit? One sprung up with mine with engorgement.

I had that the worse yesterday. I pumped enough to relieve the pressure and stored it away. Today LO is 13 days old and things have started to regulate thankfully.

I had this when my milk first came in. My pump hasn't come in yet (insurance is being a twatwaffle and claims they never received my order and LO came two weeks early). Baby couldn't latch because I was so engorged so I ended up having to just stand in the shower under hot water and I felt so much better.

  • For me engorgement came with cluster feeding so right now it's just massaging before Cole can latch but the first day was horrible. I pumped enough out "for comfort" and it felt so much better it was almost orgasmic relief.
  • What speed do you ladies rec to pump at?
  • No baby yet (fingers crossed for this weekend), but with my first baby hot showers/baths were a life saver. I had quite a few blockages and it helped to get rid of them.
  • What speed do you ladies rec to pump at?

Do what's comfortable for you. I start on low because I have a slow let down. Once I let down I turn up to medium, then finish on high while I manually express at the same time.
  • What speed do you ladies rec to pump at?

I am able to pump for effectively if I pump on slow the whole time. It takes a little longer but it draws more out for me. Play with the speeds and see what works for you in your comfort range.
  • My husband has been amazing with our week old daughter. I think I might have changed 3 diapers total. He holds her, rocks her and loves this little girl so much.

I've been breastfeeding successfully since the first moments. Every 2 hours without fail she nurses. It's fine, I love the bonding and so far painless!

Here's our problem. When my husband takes a night shift for me to sleep, she cries for 2 hours straight. Like nothing stops her until he gives her to me. It is breaking his heart. So I pumped enough for a bottle tonight just so he could feed her and I thought that would solve the problem. Nope. She took the bottle and went right back to screaming until just now when my 2 hours was up. Gives her to me, she instantly stops. I am ready to throw in the towel on breastfeeding just because she won't attach to him and it is upsetting to us
  • @littlebitmom Has he ever tried doing skin to skin with her? It may not help but it can't hurt. Benefits can come from Dad with it the same as mom but maybe as much as mom she misses the skin to skin contact of breastfeeding when she doesn't get it. I hope it gets better quickly. That is a frustrating situation to be in.
  • Anyone's LO have a lip tie? And did getting it fixed help with your baby's latch? I'm pretty sure LO has a lip tie and was just curious if getting it fixed would help. I called the Dr about it but they never got back to me, would a lactation consultant be able to tell?
