Bad napper

My daughter is 8 weeks and is sleeping about 4 hours over night at least once and then often also has a 3 hour window. At night she sleeps in her bassinet. But during the day, she often wakes after 20-30 minutes. Additionally, she will only sleep in my arms. Is anyone else seeing sleep progress at night but still difficulty during the day? I also HAVE to rock her to sleep both at night and during the day. She has acid reflux, and is colicky. I'm feeling so exhausted and alone!

Re: Bad napper

  • My son is 11 weeks tomorrow and has the same daytime napping habits. When I put him in his crib or pack and play, he wakes up right away crying. I was told if I hold him for 15 to 20 minutes after he falls asleep that he will get into a deeper sleep and stay asleep when I put him down, but no such luck here. I've started wearing him in a carrier, so I can get stuff done around the house while he sleeps. Keep up the great work, Momma! This shall pass.

  • Mine was a great napper up until a week or so ago. She's 9 weeks right now. She has started sleeping longer stretches at night(5-6 hr on the first stretch and 3-4 next stretch). Now she has a hard time falling asleep and staying asleep. She's also started only wanting to sleep on me. She's very colicky and it's much harder with a 2 yr old running around. Hoping for some relief for all of us soon!
  • Glad I'm not alone. I hope things get easier in the next couple weeks!
  • My LO is 9 weeks and slept 9 hours last night. Her sleep has been increasing but she has always been a cat napper. 35-40 in the mamaroo or bouncy seat, maybe and hour if I hold her the whole time (not sitting down). I'm not sure if she will ever nap for longer!
  • So glad I'm not alone! I thought my LO was the only one. She'll sleep 8hrs a night but only takes 20-35 min naps every hour and a half during the day. Try soothing music and a dark room to take the nap, usually that helps my lo's nap last an additional 10 min or so.
  • You're not alone mama! My LO is also 8 weeks. She sleeps ok at night - 4 hours for the first stretch and then up every two hrs. afterward. She will occasionally have a longer stretch after the first one, but it's rare. During the day I've tried everything to get her to nap past 20 minutes. The only way it works is if I'm holding her or wearing her. Hoping along with you that it'll get better :] Waiting for this "4th trimester" to pass! Lol... I've got a lot riding on that! ::fingers crossed::
  • My daughter used to nap for hours in the day but for the past few weeks she only naps for about 45 minutes an hour and I find that a good thing because then she goes to sleep st night around 8:30-9:30 and then only wakes up once at 3/4 then back to sleep til 7:30/8. In the past three weeks she's had 3 naps that have lasted 2-3 hours but apart from that she cat naps and that's fine with me if she sleeps at night. She's 10 weeks x
  • My LO is 12 weeks and a bad napper. He sleeps well at night, 8pm-3am and then 3:30am-6am most nights. During the day he only takes a few 10-15 minute naps though, and never in his crib or pack n play. My older three weren't much for naps either. None of them napped regularly past 18 months.
