What to do indoors with a toddler and a newborn

What do you do on cold days inside with your toddler and newborn? I am running out of things to do with the toddler that still make it possible to handle a newborn. It is getting cold outside, so other than a quick walk outside time is a very limited option. We also aren't a big TV family so while watching a movie is fine, I don't want our older one camped in front of a TV all day either.

  • How young is your toddler? What if you invested in some little kid games or puzzles?
  • Loading the player...
  • We read books, color pictures, water colors, and work on preschool workbooks. Practice writing letters and numbers is a new thing he enjoys. My boy might be older than your toddler though. He's a 3.5yr old. I've also let him play some educational games on the computer. But I do feel like we run out of things to do as well...maybe you could research some fun toddler games to play or get some introductory board games and hidden picture books.
  • Read, watch a movie, she 'cooks' for me in her play kitchen, roll a ball back and forth down the hallway, color, practice being gentle while playing with baby dolls or stuffed animals, dance parties, sing alongs, dress up (mostly consisting of learning how to put on and take off winter gear currently), learn the animals and their sounds, learn letters and numbers with the foam toys in the bathtub, helping with the baby (bring a diaper to you for a change, she's in charge of giving him his pacifier when she's close, help feed a bottle from time to time - I BF so I'll pump one for her to give him occasionally)

    She'll be 3 in March.
  • Have you looked into programs at the library? I know ours does story time a few times a week.
