Any headache cures????

I have been having horrible headaches for weeks. My doctor prescribed pills which help sometimes. She sent a new prescription to the pharmacy on Friday but they never received it so I am stuck until Monday to call the doctor. I have also seen a neurologist but her prescription didn't help... I am following up with her on Tuesday. But for now, any out of the ordinary cures for headaches? I would really like some relief before work tonight!

Re: Any headache cures????

  • A nap with an ice pack on your head.  Works for me.  I usually take some sort of pain reliever before also.
  • Loading the player...
  • A little caffeine really helps me.
  • Naps works for me too, 30-60 minutes can work wonders!
  • Do all of these at the same time^^
  • I am also having horrible migraines which I can't seem to find relief from. I asked one of the doctors at work (I work in an emergency department) and he said that most likely the problem is hydration related. He said that during weeks 15-20 your blood volume doubles so your bone marrow is working overtime and steals a lot of your water content to make new blood. He said it's practically impossible to stay fully hydrated because you're also peeing extra! He recommended something called gastrolyte (not sure on the spelling) it's basically pedialyte for adults. I'm going to give it a try this week. If it works for me, I'll let you know.
  • All of the above. We need all the sleep right now, I think the recommended amount is 9-10 hours a day? Anyway, rest, water, caffeine, ice pack over the eyes or on the back of the neck can be helpful. You could also try chiropractic care. The top few vertebrae can be responsible for some brutal headaches.
  • What works best depends on where you're feeling the headache. Some things seem to work pretty well for most headaches like water and extra sleep. For common, non-sinus headaches, I'd personally recommend:

Migraine-type: nap, water, dim lights, bit of caffeine, jaw massage, cold compress on back of neck
Tension/temples: Nap, water, massage temples and shoulders, cold compress forehead
Dizzyish headache: Nap, water, citrus, check to be sure spine is aligned
All-over type headache: Nap, water, cold compress on forehead, massage neck/shoulders
  • Well, looks like the headaches are starting to hit, along with really bad jaw pain and back of the neck tension. I am just taking tylenol (is there such thing as too much when pregnant??) since naps at work are frowned upon. I am absolutely miserable right now. This headache has been building up all weekend :(

  • I managed to mostly escape ms but the migraines have been horrible. Caffeine (avoid diet drinks, the aspartame doesn't help! I prefer a real coke personally), Tylenol, warm bath or heating pad on your feet with an ice pack on the back of your neck, and rest when you can. Also, like PPs said, hydrate like crazy. Hope you feel better soon!

I feel you, I have the absolute worst headache right now. I resorted to two tylenol's because I have tried water and caffeine. Napping is frowned upon at work, so I don't have that option. :( This sucks!
  • Add me to the headache club. They are usually one sided but I've had them on alternating sides. They're brutal. I'm trying caffeine and water.... Ugh.
  • I'm having crazy headaches too. Mostly on one side, in my temple. I'm trying to avoid taking anything, but man it's hard. My neck and shoulders have been very sore too, which doesn't help the headache. :(
  • This may sound crazy, but I absolutely swear by raw apple cider vinegar. I've been drinking 1tsp in a big glass of water twice a day for the past week for my stuffy nose, allergies, and headaches and it's done wonders for all three. Of course, it's not 100% but I'll take the 70 to 80% in a heartbeat! Plus it's got so many other benefits.
  • I asked my Dr. What to do about them since I've had one migraine a week since week 12. She said caffeine, then drink more fluids and rest.... Interestingly enough she said most people who have the headaches ten to get better or go away by 18 weeks. So here's to hoping that's not just a terrible lie lol.
  • My migraines are out of control. I was also told that weeks 16-18 are worst and then they tend to get better. I just wish there was something I could take that actually works. Ugh.
  • I'm also experiencing bad headaches...including one right now. Ugh! I'd add doing a neti pot. It helps keep sinuses clear; headaches can be amplified when there is congestion in your sinuses.
