Bed rest

I got really sick on Wednesday. I couldn't keep anything, including water, down or in and almost needed to go to the hospital to get iv fluids.I was able to keep down enough that we didn't have to go in thankfully! Yesterday, probably due to the stress of everything, I started having contractions. Since it's my first, I didn't know what contractions felt like so it took me a little to call my midwife. She was able to stop them but she did put me on bed rest for a few days. I'm feeling better. Tired and sore but on the mend.

I'm not used to laying around all day so what are some good ways to spend bed rest? Any good netflix series I should know about?

Re: Bed rest

  • I hope you recover quickly! I'd probably switch it up between reading, binge watching something, online shopping, bumping, and napping. I'm really enjoying The Mindy Project lately as far as funny/mindless TV goes, but I'm not sure if that's on Netflix. (Hulu and Amazon have it).

Please don't judge but if you have the time, Pretty Little Liars would be a great show to binge watch.

eta: I'm so glad she was able to start the contractions. Please take care of yourself!

I was just coming back to write this! PLL is my jam. I have gotten H addicted, too. He even tells me all the time that he can't wait for it to come back on in January!
  • @sarawifenow my H is addicted too! I'm really not happy with who A is but I'm going to move past it and see what the "FlAsh Forward 5 Years" does. I've been watching since it first aired, I can't ditch it now!

Same here. It was pretty lame. I'll be interested to see the new season!
  • Scandal!

Hope you are feeling better soon

  • Hope you feel better soon and get plenty of rest!
  • I've completely finished PLL and Unbreakable both were great shows! :) I'll have to look into the Mindy Project. I discovered Call the Midwife this morning so I'm really enjoying that one. I've also got a few books to switch off with. My mind can't stop going through all the things in the house that I could be working on. I'm really not good at taking it easy.

  • Also no judging... But I became addicted to orange is the new black. All 3 seasons are on Netflix. I couldn't stop once I started! As long as you aren't offended by some foul language and lesbian action. Lol. I find it a very entertaining and humorous for the most part! Patiently awaiting the next season.
  • Oh, I hope you feel better soon!

When I had an intense form of the flu last year, I ended up on my back for 4 days (which seemed like an eternity) and since my head hurt, reading was out, so I watched a lot of Netflix. If you like political/intrigue I'd recommend Scandal or House of Cards; Quriky Comedies - definitely The Unbreakable Kimmy Shmidt; Mystery lover? Marple is always fun for a cottage mystery; SciFi - Firefly. And in general I always recommend Buffy (and Angel too I guess), Gilmore Girls and now, The Fosters, which I just started recently and have fallen in love with.

  • On the more serious side, I love, love Hell on Wheels. On the family fun side, The Fosters. For awesomely bad, check out The 100.

    Feel better!!!!
  • Oh also if you are into HGTV, Fixer Upper is fun. I watched them all one weekend and suddenly wanted to redecorate my whole house.
  • Once upon a time!!! DH and I are finally caught up to real time but we are definitely addicted. I also second scandal!
  • @H0neyC0mb if you feel unproductive, maybe you could get your SO to get you some supplies and watch YouTube videos to learn how to crochet or something.

  • @lalala2004 yes! When I was on bedrest, I couldn't take just watching movies/TV or reading (though I did quite a bit of all three). One of my good friends brought over an embroidery set and pattern and we made pillows together. Sounds super lame, but it was very relaxing and surprisingly easy (I am the least crafty person on the face of the earth!). I did attempt knitting, but would get distracted and lose count of stitches so I ended up with one lop-sided, unintentionally wavy scarf. Meh.

Also, adult coloring books are SUPER relaxing and a great way to pass the time. And by adult I mean difficult patterns or famous works of art...though I'm sure you could find other...adult...coloring books (wink wink)

I think both Groupon and Amazon have adult coloring books on sale right now.
  • I'm glad everything's ok! I hope your time on bed rest isn't too boring.

If you didn't watch it back when it was on TV, Lost is a great show to binge-watch. Or Big Bang Theory.
  • @lalala2004 I do knit, I've got no idea where my supplies are at right now. haha It's been a long time since I've had time. :)

For a good family show, "Heartland" is something my husband and I are addicted to and its on netflix! We have horses ourselves so it relates home for us. Lol but if you like action and mystery... I am obsessed with "The 100" and the first two seasons are on Netflix (I'm patiently waiting for next season to start in January)!

And it doesn't bother me if anyone judges my TV choices! Haha! Hugs!
  • Yuck! I've been there. I'm already getting contractions but it's with me getting upset, being on my feet too long, or not drinking enough water. I was put on BR at 6 mos with DD. I took up crocheting, I read a lot, I watched Golden Girls A LOT, and I did Pinterest a lot. I hope you get to feeling better soon.

    Netflix watches I love:

    Bloodlines
    Cedar Cove
    When Calls the Heart
How To Get Away With Murder
    Greys Anatomy
About Alex (movie...it's a modern version of The Big Chill)
The Butcher's Wife (so cheesy but I love it)
    Supernatural
    American Horror Story
    The Killing
Urban Cowboy (movie..."My legs are sweatin Mama"....anyone??)
    Parenthood
    Saving Grace
    Sons of Anarchy
    Charmed
    The Kennedys
    Benny and Joon (movie)
    Witches of East End

Definitely to the crochet train. I taught myself 6 months ago when I got diagnosed with fibromyalgia. When I flare I am in really bad shape and can pretty much only move my hands. I've made such awesome projects and I get stoked to hit up joanns fabric or hobby lobby when they have sales on yarn. My kid will be a yarn baby, already has a deer diaper cover and beanie with antlers for newborn pics that have been crocheted and all sorts of blankets. So sorry you got so sick and glad to hear you're on the mend, I sure hope you continue on that path. Thoughts and prayers for you.
  • All Star Trek series (original, Next Gen, DS9, Voyager, Enterprise), Psych, Sherlock, Doctor Who, and West Wing are Netflix favorites of mine
  • Hope you get off bed rest soon and cook that baby to full term with no further problems. I also recommend Scandal (although the most recent two episodes have me disappointed). Hubby and I have been watching all of Modern Family and love it! Have you watched castle? Also you can use Shutterfly online to make scrapbooks of all your photos, that's a great way to pass a lot of time and have something to show for it!
