Trouble TTC

PCOS/SMA

So after a couple months of irregular periods I found out that I have PCOS. Since we are TTC my husband & I went to a fertility doc. They offered genetic testing so I decided to do it. I then found out I am a carrier for SMA. My husband got tested and we found out so is he. My fertility doc wants us to do PGD/IVF. Of course our insurance doesn't cover it. I'm super grateful for having to avoid the heartache of having a child with SMA...but I never thought in a million years that I'd be avoiding pregnancy for 15 yrs to spending 20k+ to have a child! What an emotional roller coaster

Re: PCOS/SMA

  • I am sorry you are going through this. The good news is that you have not "wasted" any money on prior treatments, making it harder to afford or save up for IVF. Depending on your finances, you may qualify for a grant. Check out the RESOLVE website for more info on that. There are also a few discount programs for medication for us out-of-pocketers that your pharmacy will likely tell you about our you can search for them on your own. I believe these are also on the RESOLVE website.

Good luck to you! Any idea if you'll be able to start IVF soon? Or, will you need to wait a few months?
