Most excited about which first moments with newborn?

I know this sounds soppy but I often daydream about what life will be like after our baby arrives. Personally, I can't wait to see my husband hold his first child for the first time to see the look on his face (I'm sure this is a common one). What are you all most excited about for first moments or things you want to do with baby?

Re: Most excited about which first moments with newborn?

  • That first night home where just me, DH and baby are together during a quiet feeding just to reflect on what we've accomplished!!!
  • Loading the player...
  • Definitely first night home by ourselves. I'm also looking forward to my husband's first time changing a diaper just because he's never done it before, and first baby smile because they're adorable.
  • I had completely forgotten about the first night! Reading your responses just made me more excited! @Soldberg247 my husband hates dirt, so I will be really curious to see if he helps with nappies! If not, I will just have to put him in charge of bath time!
  • Yeap I can't wait to see DH's face when baby finally comes. Neither of us had tears during the ultrasound so I'm curious how both of us react after birth!
  • I'm excited for many of the same things you ladies are... Plus my Mom has always told me that a little bit after she had me, everyone left her alone with me in the room for just a few minutes (who knows if I'll get the same opportunity?!) and she said we just looked into each other's eyes the whole time. I'm her first born and she says those few minutes connected us more than anything. Makes me tear up thinking about it, but I would love that time with my LO, if possible.

That's adorable, I actually teared up reading this. Hormones...lol.

My husband is very practical and doesn't always express himself outwardly despite being very loving, so I'm with you on this one! Not sure how he will react! When I told him I was pregnant, he asked if his delivery of shoes had arrived! I said " no ... just a baby" lol. He really wants this baby so much so he might react in an emotional way when the time comes.
  • I am most excited about skin to skin after the baby is born.  I didn't get that moment with my first.  I was put under from am emergency c section (ugly first birth story) and woke up about 2 hours after he was born.  After my baby is born - I am most looking forward to putting them on my chest and just holding them.

OK  now I am tearing up.

  • I'm curious to see how this birth is different for me (god I hope it's different!) my son had a traumatic delivery and ended up with both lungs collapsed and was life flighted to a bigger hospital out of state, so I didn't get to hold him until he was 12 hours old (after I was discharged the next day and we made the three hour drive to the NICU). We stayed there a week and had no time alone with him. But I do remember the first time I got to hold him was surreal. He was so beautiful! I'm hoping we have a much easier delivery this time and I really want that immediate skin-to-skin that I missed with DS, and having a few minutes alone with him/her!

  • I'm looking forward to having a RCS. (Rather than 30hrs of labor and an emergency CS) I hope this baby doesn't have to spend time in the NICU. And I'm also really excited for the first time the baby sleeps through the night.

  • I love this thread because I hadn't been thinking about actual time with our baby, I feel like I've instead been focusing on what we need to do to get ready for baby. I can't wait to hold our baby for the first time and to see H do the same.
  • This thread makes me so happy! I've been so worried about having a miscarriage I didn't even think about it... I think I'm looking forward to right after the baby is born and my husband and I get to spend time just us and the baby! I'm also really excited for when husband gets to see the baby for the first time... And currently I'm super excited to no longer be nauseous all the time.
  • I can't wait to see DH hold the baby for the first time.

I also can't wait for skin to skin and breastfeeding/bonding in general.

Just to be able to hold the baby and actually feel like a mother, like this is what I've been working on making for 9 months.

  • I'm looking forward to DS holding his baby sibling for the first time. Also starting to breastfeed while actually having an idea of what I'm doing this time. And little tiny outfits! Hats with ears on them!
  • I can't wait to meet my baby. I can't wait to breastfeed again, and just snuggle a tiny newborn! I'm most excited for our daughter to meet her little sibling :)
  • Bringing them home.  Our DS was in the NICU but only for a few days.  These guys will be there longer than that probably.
DS 9/2/13 was a BFP from an IUI!
Triplets due 6/29/16 also from an IUI!

  • I can't wait to see DH with the baby. I can't even imagine how much he's going to love this little baby!! I can't wait to just look at the baby and be absolutely in love :) I'm even looking forward to sleepless nights, feedings, and changing diapers. I just can't wait to be a mommy!!
  • I can't wait to see DS with the new baby. And I can't wait for naps on the couch with the new little one cuddled on my chest. I don't get very many cuddles from DS anymore -- he's too busy being 4!
  • I agree with PP that I can't wait to see my DH with the baby. I don't think the fact that there's a baby coming is quite the reality for him as it is for me. I mean he's thrilled I'm pregnant and can't wait to be a dad but I already feel like I'm a mom and already feel a connected to our child. I don't know if he'll REALLY be able to have that until there is an actual baby he can see and hold. I think it'll connect him to being a dad in a way he can't while I'm pregnant. I imagine that experience will bond us in ways I can't even imagine. I'm also really looking forward to meeting our baby and learning all about him/her and his/her personality.

I don't think the baby coming was a reality for my husband until our dr said "ok you're at a ten!" And my husband said "oh my god what does that mean!?!" And I said "it's time to push" he about lost it. I think that's when he was like "oh shit, we are having a BABY!"

  • We are Team Green, and the moment when the nurses shouted "It's a girl!" with our first was so special -- looking forward to that surprise again this time.

Yes, I'm definitely looking forward to finding out when the baby is born. My husband wants to know but I would rather wait so he will be finding out by himself! I hope he can keep a secret. It might sound silly but I think not knowing will help me push as I will be so impatient to see what we are having. Lol.
  • We are "team green" as well and I'm really looking forward to hearing what it is, and then to hold the baby skin to skin... and to see DH hold the baby... so many moments!! I'm also picturing rocking baby in a glider in their nursery in the middle of the night... :)

  • I am most looking forward to seeing our baby's sweet face and being able to hold his/her  little hands and feet and smelling their baby breath. It's going to be heaven! I'm so pumped!
  • So many things! I'm excited for the first time s/he is put into my arms...the first time I see DH holding him/her...coming home & starting our new life as a family of 3 (+ dog, of course). And every day after that. Watching a baby experience so many firsts will be amazing.

...& I'm super emotional today so of course thinking of all of this now has me sobbing.
