FAST heartbeat

At my very first US at 6 weeks the HB was 126. Normal. Then at the other three Ultrasounds (I had lots of bleeding and cramping and then they couldn't find HB with doppler) the heartbeat was 180-186. My son was born with heart defects so of course that's the first place my mind goes to. I have been keeping up with the ultrasound thread but everyone else's babies are in the normal below 180 range. My other US's were between 8 and 11 weeks.
Dr said "it's a little high but that can be normal".. I know that should be enough to keep me from worrying.. But dr Google has me a little freaked out tonight.
Anyone else's little beans have very fast heartrates??

  • Step away from the Google! That's the only advice I have to offer. I'm so sorry you're stressed out about this.

  • Trust your doctor. Last time I used Dr. Google I was convinced I was dying a slow painful death. I had a cold lol.

  • Some of my googling said 120-190 is even considered normal. I would not worry, if your Dr isn't worried. I will end my googling there.

I love your self control! I will take the up to 190 and run with it ;)

  • Our u/s at 8w5d measured heart rate at 180. Doppler 15 minutes later said 175. My doctor did not say anything about these numbers being high so I'm not worried about it.

  • I had an ultrasound at 8w4d and the heart rate measured 188. My Dr. noted that it was on the rapid side but didn't seem remotely concerned about it. I've just been forcing myself not to google anything and counting the days until my next ultrasound next week.

  • Don't worry!!! DD had 180s throughout my first pregnancy. She still has a slightly faster than normal heartrate and completely healthy. Even little babies are thier own unique selves.
  • I'm opposite end of the scale. Mine was 90. A lot of what I googled told me I would miscarry and there was only a small chance of life. Then I read other stuff that said it was normal. Google is insane. Trust the doctor.
  • My son's heart rate was in the 180s for a while early on in my pregnancy. He is now a very healthy (and extremely active) little 19 month old. I always worried about the same thing myself after googling, but my dr. Assured me that it was normal and would eventually slow down. It did! Maybe you just have a little active one on your hands, too!
  • Thanks everyone! This makes me feel much better. Little thing was moving around a lot during the ultrasound so maybe that has something to do with it too. This baby will have a fetal echo closer to the end, right around the time DS will go for his 2 year echo check up which makes me so nervous. Heart stuff makes me crazy!

  • at 10w6d, mine was between 175-180 and my doctor said that was perfectly normal for early in pregnancy, so don't worry!
  • at 7 weeks, the heartbeat was 122. At my last appt. (10 weeks) the heartbeat was 170. My OB said it maybe because of the caffeine and sugar in the mcdonalds Frappe I was slurping down lol.
  • I am having the same worry! I got a Doppler when I was 9 weeks, and have been listening and timing the heartbeat, now I'm 11 weeks six days, and its still always 180, sometimes it's 178 but usually everyday 180. Even when ive had no caffine yet :\ I haven't talked to my midwife about it, but maybe I should. I'm hoping it's just totally normal!!!
  • I had my first US on Monday. The tech literally said, "Whoa, baby's working hard in there!" The heartbeat was 170. It freaked me out but my doc said baby was good. I'd trust your doc and try to relax.
  • I had my first US at 8w1d and the heart beat was 189. She checked it three times and every time it was 189. The baby was also moving a lot. My doctor said he wasn't worried about it at all. It was within normal in their minds. I have learned to stay off Dr Google. All it will do is scare you.
  • Both of my kids had fast hart beats. Just today lo had a HB of almost 170 when the midwife said it should be below 160. There has never been a problem with any of them

  • Ditto to everyone else saying not to worry too much - but I understand how easier said that is than done-especially with your son having heart issues. Do you mind sharing more about your other son? You mentioned he's got his 2nd year echo coming up - will he have testing done every year for the forseeable future?
  • I was hanging on to the old wives tale about the heartbeat being high or low when I heard it was 170. I thought okay, maybe hopefully you really are a girl!

I'm 8wks and had my first ultrasound yesterday and my baby's heart rate was 183bpm. The doc said it was normal and nothing to worry about.
  • My daughters was 190 at 9 weeks. Doctor was never worried, and she's a happy healthy baby!
  • @jennk0118 I thought the exact same thing!! I'm really wanting to do a gender reveal with this one so I'm trying not to read too much into it. DD's heart rate was always 155-160. My first we lived far away from friends and family. I really want to celebrate since we won't be having a shower.

The day after he was born his pedi heard a murmur. He decided to do an echo just to be safe. We found out he had three holes in his heart, his ductus valve did not close on its own (it's supposed to close as baby exits mother) and the worst part was that his aorta was on the narrow side. They kept doing echos and seeing that it was getting narrower each day. We were told it could end in open heart surgery at 3 weeks or even death. When he was three days old the echo showed that his ductus valve closed naturally. When he was 10 days old we went for his 7th and final echo (babies hearts are finished changing by this time) and we found that his aorta STOPPED narrowing right on "mildly narrow/normal" . SUCH a blessing. I am tearing up all over again thinking about how fortunate we are. They said that it was working really well to pump blood and it would not be a concern.. his body will adjust to it as he grows. We were advised to do a 2 year check up just to give peace of mind (since I'm the anxious type.. can't you tell?) and since he had a murmur again at his 15 month checkup.
