3rd Trimester

Bra Recommendations Please!

I posted this in 0-3 as well to get the perspective of those ladies already nursing, but I am wondering if any of you have recommendations for comfy bras during 3rd tri. Bonus if they work for nursing! I am not quite to 3rd tri, but I need something with adequate support for big boobs - 36DD+ and I can't handle the underwire anymore. I've never been very successful at finding good maternity/nursing bras. Ideally this would be something I could wear under normal clothes to leave the house. Right now I have a few thin stretchy ones that a great for home, but they come up too high for most shirts and don't really give a ton of support. TIA!

Re: Bra Recommendations Please!

  • Motherhood maternity is a good place to start. If you can go to a store they will measure you and get a great fit. They have a large range of sizes too. Their nursing bras can be used as normal bras during the third trimester for sure. I loved my motherhood bras when I was nursing my first.

  • Granted I worked there so it was a little cheaper to buy bras, but the lounge bra from Victoria's Secret is great and comfy with no underwire. My every day bra since I've been pregnant is the Body By Victoria demi, I bought it in a band size bigger than my confirmed fit for comfort since I don't want anything super tight. They wouldn't be good nursing bras though.
  • Go to Nordstrom and get professionally fitted. I like the Elomi underwire nursing bra. Underwire was essential to me. I really needed the support (DD pre preg to H while nursing).
  • Personally, I wouldn't recommend Motherhood bras. I bought 2 different regular, nursing bras and the wires are poking out on both of them and I haven't even worn them that much through pregnancy. The brand recommended to me was Bravado.
  • I had the most luck with the website Bare Necessities. They have nursing bras in weird sizes. Just make sure you read the sizing information carefully because some of the brands are European and can be sized differently. I was able to find a nursing bra without an underwire by a German company called Anita in 32J which is a bit snug, but better than the 32F I've been cramming myself into lately.

  • I just found a brand called Simple Wishes and then found a store that carried them. I'm a 34/36 D currently and the Small+ fit me and they go from Small up to Large+++ (the pluses are actually teardrop looking things, weird sizing but it's a diff kind of bra so traditional sizing wouldn't work). This bra was so comfortable and supportive, I want all my bras to be this bra. Works as a hands-free pumping AND nursing bra and they also make a tank top. I was skeptical after reading some reviews but when I tried it on in person I REALLY liked it. My biggest complaint is that they are a tad pricey at $45 each, which is also why I haven't purchased one yet.
  • Second Nordstrom's or Bare Necessities. I've gone from a 34FF to a 34K and underwire cut into my bump way too much. So I ordered the Goddess brand from there. Much more comfy. Everyone recommends Bravado, but it doesn't come in my size, but for OP it should. BN also has a lot of sales if you sign up for their email list. Nordstrom's can size you accurately if you aren't sure.

  • I swear by Motherhood bras. They are so comfortable.
  • So I was really really struggling with this and I acctually whent and got some bikini tops (the type that come in bra sizing obviously not a triangle- that wouldn't be supportive enough) the ones I got do have underwire, and adjustable straps but because the have so much more stretch that's regular bra they are soooo much more comfortable as I bloat during the day!! They expand with me!! Lol!
  • Here's some advice coming from a fellow large breasted woman!  :)

Have you been measured to ensure that you are in fact a 36DD?  Before I got a professional bra fitting I thought I was a 34DD, turns out I was a 30G. About 4 months into my pregnancy, I got remeasured and I am now a 34H!  It's amazing what a professional bra fitting will do  (at a specialty store or Nordstrom if you don't have a bra shop nearby)!

My number one piece of advice is to not step foot in Victoria's Secret if you think you are anything above a D.  Their D cups are actually Cs thanks to something in the industry we call "vanity sizing."

That being said, accurate sizing doesn't matter as much if you are in search of a comfortable/no-underwire bra. These are my top picks:
Genie Bra - You can find it on Amazon.  Not the best support ever, but there is a pouch to slip in their included support pads or nursing pads.
CooShco Nursing Bra - They sell a wirefree push up version on Amazon as well.  Go for the Large or XLarge.

Thanks. I measured at home and think I am a 36DD, but I do remember getting measured at Nordstrom after my first child about 6 years ago and I think I was somewhere in the 34EE or F range while nursing so I guess I should probably explore that again. My band size is about a 35 so right in the middle but I've been sizing up for comfort.
  • If you're looking for something more affordable, I've been using nursing bras from target and they have held up for almost 20 weeks now, I just had to purchase a band extender.
I just went in and tried a bunch on, the ones I got came in S M L sizing.
