Three wheels vs four stroller advice!

Hey ladies, so im looking to buy my baby her stroller over the next few weeks but im unsure which is better three wheelers or four. We camp all summer it mainly gravol road there. I wasnt sure which would be for ideal for us any of you have experience with three or four wheel strollers? Which do you prefer

Re: Three wheels vs four stroller advice!

  • FTM but I have a lot of running mom friends. They recommended a 3 wheel stroller since we go on a lot of gravel roads. Most importantly, I was told to look at the tires and make sure they're for rough or rugged terrain to grip and handle better. Also, check the spokes on the tires. Composite is better than steal/metal spikes. Especially if you plan to be out in areas that can get muddy (sounds like you do). Metal spokes tend to rust and are more fragile.

  • I find 3 wheels much easier to maneuver.

  • 3 especially for more active lifestyle. We use our Bob on trails, surface and the beach. I've used 4 wheel strollers and they just don't maneuver as well
  • I had four tires before , several models, and A new stroller with 3 huge Tires is first purchase I made for myself/ new baby. I don't run or camp, etc. but four small tires is annoying just at the mall or walking around the block. Over summer we had a city mini for Disney and I fell in love. My 50lb 3 year old was so easy in it! I didn't allege that much but got graco quick connect system this time. So excited, I've wanted to let my 3 year old use it, but I'm holding out.
  • 3 wheels definitely push and maneuver nicely, just make sure you get one that folds easily.  I had a Bob single stroller and while it was great to push, the way it folded was awful and getting it in and out of my car while folded was awful.  It was heavy and didnt stay folded, so you have to be very careful how you picked it up.  Also it took up a lot of space, although a lot of times with your first baby that's not a deal breaker.

  • My 4 wheel travel system worked great for the first year or so.  It folds up nicely but it still takes up quite some room in the trunk.  Eventually we retired the stroller since the umbrella stroller was much easier to go around with.  It's still a 4 wheel stroller and I love it.  I tried a 3 wheel stroller before and were told that it can be difficult to balance if you need to go up and down curbs a lot.  Otherwise, they are great and maneuver around very nicely.
  • So we had the Britax B-Agile, with the infant seat... and it worked great for out and about, walks around the block, etc.  I loved the smooth and easy fold up and how it rolled.

When it came time for rougher terrain-trails and festivals, it didn't work so well.  We ended up getting a Baby Trend Expedition (clearance/sale price was around $80) that worked great.  Also, my LO preferred it as it sat more upright.  Kiddo still prefers this stroller over all others.  However, the jogger does not fit easily in my small car and folding it is a pain.  I don't jog. Both of these were 3 wheels.

    I hope that helps!
  • 3 wheels are easier to maneuver but be sure to get one that folds and opens easily. We are going to get rid of ours :( I love it but we need a double stroller and I do not look forward to managing one... hopefully they are not as bulky as they look
  • 3 wheels for rugged terrain. I cannot express my love for the Bob enough (I would replace it immediately if something happened to it) but if you camp and travel I agree the one drawback is that it really doesn't fold that well/efficiently. We also have the City Jogger and even though that's not quite as hearty on gravel, it folds like a dream and stores well. The City Mini might be a good option since its a tiny bit smaller.
