quit birth control mid cycle

I just took out my nuva ring yesterday after only having this one in for a week. So it would be like quitting the bcp a week into the active pills. I have been on nuva ring for 5 years.

Since I took it out mid-use....does anyone have any experience or knowledge about when I would get my period or ovulate? I know I need to get a period to start charting but I don't know if it will come in a few weeks like normal or a few days. I know it's different for everyone but would like to hear other's experience. Thanks!

When my Ex-husband and I had been married nearly 3 years exactly we talked about having a baby. I stopped taking my birth control pills about the same time as you described. I was 21 and in pretty good shape. Didn't smoke or anything. (Don't know if it had anything to do with it) I fell pregnant that month. I think since hormonal birth control keeps you from ovulating that once I stopped it my body ovulated very soon after, I guess the hormone levels evened out very quickly. Keep in mind this is my experience with stopping hbc mid cycle and will have no bearing on what your body will do.

I stopped taking my bcp with about a week and a half left of active pills. It took my body a little over a month to have a period. Just my experience.

Taking it out mid-cycle should not mess up your cycle. Only a minority of women see a change in cycles when this happens and who's to say if the timing is to blame or just the fact that hormones are out of wack.

I really wouldn't worry about it too much. If you had a period right before using it, I'd expect a period in 2-5 weeks. There's no way for us to know when as everyone is different.

You'll see different stories for all of us but keep in mind that cycles are affected differently for different people. I stopped BCP a couple of times on the few years that I was on it and the only difference I saw was a slightly heavier first period after stopping. I started ovulating in the next cycle each time.

I was on birth control for 15+ years, and stopped mid-cycle (literally the day we closed on our house) and it took about a week for breakthrough bleeding and then I ovulated about two weeks later. But as PP said, my experience has no affect on yours.

I did start temping right away as suggested by the ladies here, and it was a great way to confirm that I actually did ovulate that first cycle, so I would say to start charting now and then just mark the next Cycle Day 1 when you get any kind of bleeding that requires a pad or tampon.

You shouldn't do that. Coming off BC messes your cycle up enough without stopping in the middle-ish of your cycle.

To answer your questions, there is no way to know when it'll come.

Everyone is different and coming off any form of BC can mess with your system. I would suggest reading the Newbie thread pinned at the top and Taking Charge of Your Fertility.

I quit BCP mid cycle after ten years on them and I got my period (or break through bleeding?) about two days after stopping and bled like a normal period. I got my period 28 days after that again and have been normalish since for the past five months.

I stopped my BCP with about a week of active pills left and had my period about 3 days sooner than I would've had I stayed on them. 

Honestly, I think you should get some ovulation test strips to use until you have your next period, just so that if you do ovulate, you know when it's about to happen. Temping can tell you if you DID ovulate, which is also helpful. Either way, your cycle may be hard to predict this first month, and it's possible to ovulate anytime once you've been off BC for a few days.

Thank you all for replies! They were really helpful. I took my first temp this morning and then had bleeding tonight so i will count this as day one even though I had my period 2 weeks ago. This cycle may be wacky but I can at least get the hang of it.
