Pain left of diaphragm??

Hello all. FTM here. At my first Dr appt with my OB at 8 weeks, I expressed concern with some pain I had been having in my diaphragm area (just slightly to the left). She did not seem the least bit concerned and told me it was probably just heartburn. She told me to use Rolaids or get Nexium. I looked into Nexium and it's pretty expensive, so I decided to tough it out and try Rolaids. I am now 10 weeks and the pain has not let up. It comes mostly late in the evening and Rolaids do not even touch it. This seems to be when my nausea is at its peak as well. It is a pretty constant pain and makes that area tender to the touch. Has anyone else experienced this?? If so, have you found anything that helps it? Sorry for the long post, just a little worried and want to see if anyone else has been through this before I spend all this money on a pill that may not work. Thanks in advance!

Re: Pain left of diaphragm??

  • I would try Tums, Maalox and/or Zantac to see if any of those would help if it is heartburn.  They are all cheaper than Nexium and safe during pregnancy.  I hope you feel better soon!

  • You could also try Gas-X if it's gas, not heart burn. I get horrible gas pains all over my body when I'm pregnant. I hope it gets better soon!

Could totally be that too.  I didn't think of that :)

  • Is it a muscle strain? I'm having some pain on my left adbomen- I think I strained the muscle while tossing and turning in bed a few nights ago. My bump is really growing now, I'm almost 12 weeks. Muscles are very sensitive!
  • Thank you ladies so much! I never thought about Gas-X, but I have noticed a (rather unwanted) increase in that area, so I'll try it! I don't think it's a muscle strain, although I do find my quality of sleep has really diminished in the last week. I'm a stomach sleeper, so this will be a struggle for me. Thank you all for the kind thoughts!
  • If nothing works id go to your normal GP instead of OB. It might not be pregnancy related
